Advice From Mrs. Goins on How to Help Your Child Adjust To Their New Normal
Due to this new situation for us all, your child is going to experience a wide range of emotions. Here a couple of simple tips to make this transition a little smoother.
-Check in with them each day to let them share how they are doing. Remind them that whatever they are feeling is fine as long as they share it in a healthy way.
-If your child begins to become overwhelmed with feelings, stay calm and remind them to take several slow deep breaths, count backwards, or think of a pleasant memory (tools we have practiced all year). They will pick up on how you are feeling so use this opportunity to stay calm and find fun, unique ways to spend this time.
-Try as best you can to keep to a schedule, lots of great examples on social media or Pinterest.
-Set small, daily goals and keep track of goals (ex.reading a certain amount of minutes each day, laps walked in backyard).
-Look for the fun and the bright side! Use this time to try out some new hobbies, play a new board game or be creative making art. Share at the dinner table one new or fun experience you had that day.

Box Top Leaders!
The top six classes with the most Box Tops, so far, are the following: Basil 143, Kersting 135, Geers 118, Beason 69, Rohe 67, and Adelsperger 58.
The collection of box tops has changed! It’s now an app for your phone (search for Box Tops for Education). When you buy a Box Tops product, scan your receipt and Taylor Elementary gets credit for the Box Tops. After taking the picture of the receipt, click on the star at the bottom of the screen and type in your child’s homeroom teacher’s name. That way your child’s homeroom gets credit. Whichever class has the most Box Tops in May will win a party of their choice.
There are still some products that have Box Tops on them. Cut those out and send them in. Have your child bring them to room 114 for a candy treat. These will count toward your child’s homeroom amount too.
If you have any questions you can email me (abeason@nwlsd.org) or Mrs. McGuire (kmcguire@nwlsd.org) or call us (825-3000).
Thank you!!
