ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families,
Last week’s return to school was certainly adventurous! It was wonderful to see students on Thursday and we are looking forward to a warmer week ahead! Rising temperatures will mean that our students can enjoy the snow that we have, so please make sure students bring proper snow gear for recess.
We will send out our regular newsletter on Friday, January 12th, but wanted to get out a few timely pieces of information after missing school this past Friday, January 5th. Please read below for important information regarding this year’s Drama production and upcoming auditions and rehearsals, as well as the National Geographic Geo-Bee.
Kind Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra
2018 CCS Musical
The CCS 2018 Spring Musical (April 12th - 14th) will be Annie! We will be working with Allison Talis (learn a little more about Allison here: http://www.allisontalis.com/about-hayden/) , a talented director coming to us from New York. Allison’s holiday travels took her to Israel at the end of December and she expects to be in Vermont this week.
Students will receive information about auditions this week, which will also be included in the Friday newsletter.
2018 National Geographic School GeoBee
The CCS School GeoBee will take place on Friday, January 26th at 1:00 p.m. in the MPR.
Students in Grades 4-8 may participate.
Students will be given information by their classroom teachers this week and more details will be included in the upcoming Friday, January 12th newsletter. Students can study for this on their own, but we also hope to gather enough parent volunteers to offer study sessions during these lunch times for at least a few days between now and January 25th:
Grades 3-4: 11:30 - 12:30
Grades 5-8: 11:00 - 11:30 OR 12:30 - 1:00
If you are able to offer support for study sessions, please email Stephanie directly at ssumner@cvsdvt.org

CCS MIDDLE SCHOOLERS ATTEND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
On December 20, 2017, fourteen of our 6th-8th grade students attended the Empower Youth Leadership Conference at the Holiday Inn, Burlington. They were joined by students from towns around Chittenden County, including Shelburne, Hinesburg, Winooski, Burlington and South Burlington. The students participated in workshops designed to build personal leadership skills.
The day started with middle schoolers working with CCS graduates from CVUHS to establish their hopes and dreams for the world. These ideas were shared with students in Uganda via a live Skype conversation. As the day progressed, students engaged in activities aimed to enhance communication skills. Highlights included creating vision boards that identified future goals and learning about the power of nonverbal communication. In a workshop on money smarts, students learned about credit, debt, investing, and compound interest. The day ended with students learning how to practice and express gratitude as a way to bring abundance and positivity into their lives.
The event was organized by Charlotte Central School teacher, Mary Muroski, and School Counselor, Kathy Batty, and co-sponsored by the Children’s Legacy Partnership through a grant from the NOVO and Education First Foundations. Local sponsors, who helped with the event, included Larkin Realty, Holiday Inn, Burlington, and Lantman’s Market in Hinesburg. We look forward to hosting two more of these conferences in the coming months and inviting more of our students to attend. It was so heartening to see the insight that these future leaders have to make the world a better place for all!
