Mrs. Ewald’s and Mrs. Fowler’s Reading and Language Arts

Mrs. Boyer's Reading Advancement Program
Students worked extremely hard this week on the IAR, and I am very proud of their progress they have made this year. Next week, we will read an article about putting a tax on junk food. One reading strategy we will revisit is cause and effect. Students will create their own cause and effect examples using a picture. The other reading strategy we will focus on will be identifying the main idea. Students will read various short pieces and identify the main ideas, as well as the supporting details.
MATH - Mr. Kolb
Accelerated 7 students just finished Probability and will be moving on to Geometry. We will begin with Scale Drawings, Geometric Figures, and Triangles.
SOCIAL STUDIES - Mrs. Hess
Students did a great job testing this week! Next week in social studies, we will continue chapter 19. This chapter is about the differences between the North and South in the mid-1800s. We will take a quiz on this chapter and then move on to a geography challenge. The geography challenge will help students understand some of the issues that divided our country in the 1800s, and will help set the stage for our final two chapters on the Civil War.
SCIENCE - Mrs. Arndt
This week we will be starting our next unit, Matter and Energy in Ecosystems. In this unit students will be learning how carbon molecules move within an ecosystem as they try to figure out why a hypothetical Biodome has failed.
