2020 grads
Hospitality & Tourism 2020 graduate Nerayah Boddy shared with former instructor, Maria Brown, that she recently interviewed with Hawaiian Airlines for a ticket counter agent position at the Portland Airport. After participating in the multi-interview process she was offered the job!
Nerayah’s favorite activity while attending Cascadia Tech was a field trip to the airport. This was a significant experience, as her ultimate career goal is to become a flight attendant. She stated, “That being a flight attendant will let her help people and allow her to travel.” Congratulations to Nerayah as she begins her career - Aloha and safe travels!
Aviation Technology 2020 graduate Jenna Joyce recently earned her instrument rating! After completing two years at Cascadia Tech, Jenna is concluding her first year at the San Diego American Airlines Cadet Academy.
Jenna shared that she started to become interested in the field of aviation her freshman year of high school. To achieve her goal she had to first address the dilemmas - how to become a pilot and where to start. Then came the solutions - Aviation Technology at Cascadia Technical Academy.
“Teachers Todd Bode and Jeremy Baenen were phenomenal instructors in regards to always making sure what I was being taught was being understood. They encouraged involvement with extracurricular aviation related events outside of school. Also supported my flight lessons at Pearson airfield”, said Joyce. Jenna went on to comment that Cascadia Tech is a school she would recommend to anyone; a perfect way to get a feel for what could be your future career, in a classroom filled with people who want the same job as you! As Jenna is wrapping up her first year at the AA Cadet Academy, we congratulate her and have every confidence that we will soon board an American Airlines flight, hearing her saying, “This is your captain speaking...”
Dental 2020 graduate Isis Plaza is employed at Gillespie Dentistry. By age 6, Isis remembers she was fascinated with teeth and smiles. She always was comfortable in the dentist’s chair, never afraid. She knew that the dentist was there to make her feel better and make her have a nice smile.
Isis completed two years in the program, with instructors Angie Anderson and Crystal Alway. She shared that the hands-on component was her favorite aspect of the class. The clinics, making bleaching trays and impressions were some of her most enjoyable experiences. She conveyed that being in a classroom, filled with other students with the same passion was an exciting way to learn.
However, when COVID-19 hit last March and school buildings closed, Isis’s life drastically changed. She credits Ms. Anderson for keeping her engaged in the program, encouraging her to apply herself and telling her that “she deserves this!”
For now, Isis is happy working as a dental assistant. She loves all the different experiences she is afforded in the workplace. She loves learning new dental techniques and challenges. Her words of wisdom to this year’s graduates is “no matter how hard it is, it will get better! Keep looking to the future and don’t look back.” We know this determined and ambitious young woman will be the reason someone smiles today!
