Career Readiness Tip of the Month--Life is a Group Project
We all know that group projects can be...interesting. They're something that you thought you'd be done with in high school, but you seem to keep doing them in college. That's because group projects are something that you will have to do throughout your life. Most jobs require you to work with your colleagues often and require teamwork on many projects. That's why group projects in your classes are a great opportunity for you to work on your collaboration skills.
The big shift happens when a successful group project doesn't end with a high grade. Instead, a successful group project outside the classroom often results in stronger work relationships, a new program existing, or a better understanding of roles, responsibilities, and individual strengths.
So this summer, why not keep in touch with your teammates! Encourage each other through summer goals and update them on your experiences.
Career Competency of the Month-Teamwork/Collaboration
Each month, we’ll take a look at one of eight Career Competencies determined to be most highly sought by employers. You can learn more about these through mycareer.wm.edu.
Teamwork/Collaboration
- Build collaborative relationships with colleagues and customers representing diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, religions, lifestyles, and viewpoints.
- Ability to work within a team structure.
- Negotiate and manage conflict.
How can you learn from your team members?
Are you taking all of your team members' perspectives into account?
