A Letter from our Principal

Dear OVCA Families,

Welcome back to school! Summer has flown by and we’re so excited to have you join us for a new school year. I know you are excited to begin the school year and have committed to doing your very best this school year. We will SHOOTING FOR THE STARS this year!

Homeroom Teachers have begun contacting student to welcome them back to school and answer questions. Each teacher is busy calling—so be patient as they work their class list. August 16-19 will be BISON BLAST-OFF WEEK! Please look on your OLS for Class Connect Links. Tuesday-Friday, teachers will hold daily Welcome Sessions for students and families. We will be working on a slower schedule this week so PLEASE plan to attend WOL live! They will be offered twice daily as we encourage every family to attend live. With our new platform this year, it is vital you understand the platform before you begin working in courses. We want you to get started out GREAT and knowing what to do is the first step in this process.

OVCA will also be hosting a LIVE Help Desk this year. Here is the URL for the LIVE Help Desk. All students, teachers and admin have been invited.

LIVE Help Desk It will be open August 8th-Sept 16th from 1:00pm-4:00pm.

Materials – these will be shipping soon if they haven’t already done so. If you are new to our school, you may have a slight delay as hundreds of shipments are being sent during this busy time. Remember, our school system can function without books and materials so you can be ready to start school August 16th with or without materials. Many courses do not have materials. Please check your dashboard for items that will ship. These shipments come directly from k12 warehouses, not our OVCA office. Please call customer service at 1.866.512.2273 for questions about your shipments.

Remember--The first day of school is August 16. On this day all students will need to log into their student account, attend a welcome to online learning live course and complete assignments in that course. I have attached a school calendar to help you plan your year.

Looking forward to a great school year,

Mrs. Powell

Parents Right to Know

At the beginning of each school year, a school district that accepts Title I, Part A funding must notify parents of students in Title I schools that they can request information regarding their child’s teacher, including, at a minimum:

(1) whether the teacher has met the state requirements for licensure and certification for the grade levels and subject-matters in which the teacher provides instruction; and

(2) whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or their provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and

(3) the college major and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree; and

(4) whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications.

In addition, each Title I school must provide each parent timely notice that the parent’s child has been assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified.

To receive any of this information please contact Nicole Ellison, Title I Coordinator, at nellison@okvirtual.org

OVCA is proud to provide your student the best possible educational experiences. OVCA strives to recruit the most qualified, experienced, and passionate educators to work with our students. All teachers employed at OVCA for the SY16-17 are highly qualified as defined by the State Department of Oklahoma. For more information regarding highly qualified criteria or other public school related matters you may go to the Oklahoma State Department website at http://ok.gov/sde/.

Join a Co-Op in your area!

Get Connected!

Co-ops are groups of students that organize to share learning experiences and instructional responsibilities. Some Co-ops elect one person to be the learning coach for all the students. Other Co-ops join together for only one subject or assign different learning coaches to be the facilitator for each subject. Parents are encouraged to form groups that best support the needs of their families. Please note that although the academy offers support and assistance in locating and setting up Co-ops, they are not sponsored by the academy and the academy is not responsible or liable for activities or actions of Co-ops. Parents are free to choose the fees, organization, membership, or other policies associated with their individual Co-op group.

Co-Op pages have been created on Facebook to offer a place for collaboration and connecting families.
