The Season of Giving/La temporada de generosidad
North Chatham Elementary is a giving community! Families have worked to collect $1000.00 to help those in need pay off lunch balances. Ms. Norris, our school social worker has been working with the organizer of this fundraiser to ensure funds go to the appropriate families. We also have an anonymous donor that is spreading holiday cheer with gifts for families through Nature Trail Tutoring Center. It is wonderful to see all the acts of kindness during this holiday season!
Another way to give back is by sponsoring the NCE Food Drive. This food will be used to support the food bags that go home weekly. Items that can be donated are as follows: granola bars, peanut butter crackers, fruit cups and mac and cheese cups. We will have donations bins in the front/back of the school through the end of the day on December 15th.
New Staff Biographies/Biografías de nuevo personal
My name is Mariana Trejo. I'm originally from Brownsville, Texas. I have a loving husband, two boys and one girl. They are 13, 12, and my little girl just turn 9. When I was in first grade I knew what career I wanted to be when I grew up and that was to help teach children. I started teaching Early Education about 6 years ago in a Spanish Immersion Preschool. When I’m not teaching I love spending time with my family. We love to go fishing and exploring. We also enjoy traveling to Florida, Texas, Mexico and any other
states that we can visit during our free time.
My name is Camiller F. Brooks. I am from a small town called Siler City, NC. I have been there all of my life, born and raised. I am a single mother of two wonderful boys Julian 10 and Kingston 3. I graduated High School from Jordan-Matthews in Siler City, NC. I completed my BS in Psychology, July 2013 and also obtained my MS in Human Services in September 2016. When I am not working and taking more classes in school I love to travel, play sports, shop and spend time with my family.
My name is Ángel Álvarez and I grew up with my parents and two siblings. I come from Puerto Rico, a Caribbean Island near Dominican Republic and Cuba which is a United States territory. My first language is Spanish and all students at Puerto Rico must complete coursework for an English class. I did all my studies in Puerto Rico and graduated from a Bachelors’ degree in Science Education, a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and a graduate certificate in Vocational Evaluation. Previously, I worked for one year as a student assistant and as a science teacher for four years in Puerto Rico. I have recently moved to North Carolina with my wife and I am very happy with that decision.
My name is Laura Fortner and I graduated from Pfeiffer University with my major in Communications. Being in the school system has been an exciting and thrilling professional shift for me. After being a caregiver for two years and working in a preschool for a handle full of months, I knew elementary education was where I wanted to be. I love being able to help children achieve their goals and seeing their joy when they accomplish what that set their mind too. I also love to coach volleyball. After being at Cedar Ridge for two volleyball seasons, I am excited to be starting my next chapter in Northwood's volleyball program.
My name is Wanda Dukes, and I am employed as ISS/IA/Bus Driver, at North Chatham Elementary. My former career was Administrative Assistant at UNC for 20 years, EMT for East Chatham Rescue Squad, I am a CPR Instructor. I am the Mother of two(2), and Grandmother of seven(7). I also have a degree in Counseling, so do not be surprised if I give you a free consultation.
