One More Week Until Spring Break
It just hit me this week that we have one more full week of school and then we have Spring Break! Each year seems to move by faster than the last year. As we complete our March is Reading Month, we will move into April, which will bring MSTEP testing for our students in 5th Grade. In May our students in grades 3, 4 & 6 will participate in MSTEP testing as well. Look for a letter to come home with more information about the MSTEP as we approach the testing dates. The 5th Grade letter was sent home electronically today in a separate email.
This week Dr. Eyeball visited Morgan Elementary and hosted eye dissections with all of our Morgan 5th Grades. Thank you to all of the parents, including Mr. D's parents, who volunteered to help with the dissections. While some of the kids seemed a bit squeamish at first, they quickly became interested in the process, locating all the different parts of the eye. There are some pictures of the eyeball dissections below.
Our new robots were also busy running around Morgan this week. Each robot is named after a former United State President as is controlled through coding apps on an iPad. The kids had several challenges to complete with their robot and even played a card game, collecting cards when they could program the robot to land on a certain space. Our robots and iPads were brought to us by the generous donations received during our fall Color Run! Robot pictures are also below.
Next week, Morgan will host an all-school assembly in the afternoon with several guest readers to celebrate the last week of March is Reading Month. We are excited to welcome Dr. Johns, UCS Superintendent, Mr. DiLorenzo, a local author, and John Rutledge with Heather VanTorre to read and sing with us during the assembly. An order form for Mr. DiLorenzo's book is below if your child would like their own copy of the book.
We will also be revealing our new PBIS video, created with help from our Student Council members. This video will review the Morgan expectations for six key areas called "Live the 8 Keys":
- Bus
- Hallway
- Bathroom
- Lunchroom
- Playground
- Assemblies
This new video does not show any faces of kids or adults and will be used for the next several years as our PBIS review and training. Thank you to Mr. D. for creating the video.
Sunday is the annual Morgan Daddy/Daughter Dance. To all of our students attending, have a fun evening!
Have a great week!

Morgan Lunch Monitors
Morgan continues to look for additional support during the lunch hour. While our building is allocated a certain amount of paid EduStaff lunch monitors, we can take additional support in the form of volunteers. Students really enjoying seeing their parent/grandparent/aunt/uncle at school during the lunch time helping in the lunchroom or walking around the playground with the kids.
If you are interested in becoming a paid lunch monitor, please click on link below to start an application with EduStaff. EduStaff certified lunch monitors are paid an hourly rate each day they work. EduStaff employees can also complete additional, free, online training sessions and become substitute paraprofessionals for additional paid hours of work.
Morgan also takes volunteers with a current background check on file. If you filled out a Volunteer Sheet within the past few years, you should be able to volunteer for field trips, classroom help and lunch supervision. If you are unsure about your volunteer status, please contact the Main Office and Sharon or Melissa can check for you: 586-797-5800.
If you are interested in volunteering during the lunch hour, which runs from 11:30 AM until 12:15 PM each day, please contact Melissa in the main office and let her know what days you are available to volunteer. Grandparents/aunts/uncles/neighbors are all welcome once we have a background check on file.
If you have any questions, please call Morgan at 586-797-5800 or email Mrs. Lasky at sue.lasky@uticak12.org.
