NEWS & INFO @ ALTA VISTA
COUGAR PRIDE
Thanks so much for turning in the first Cougar Pride names. The students looked so proud as they came to the office that it made me smile. Since there is no school on Friday, I'll be doing the announcements on Thursday. Normally, I would just skip it, but since we're just getting started, I want to keep the momentum going. Click the link above to get to the list (newest is at the top).GATES AND STUDENTS
As you heard me mention during the announcements, parents are asking students to open the gates during the day. We've also heard about students running to the curb to get items from parents who remain in their cars. Please remind students that they should only be opening gates during the school day in the event of an emergency. Students opening gates for adults defeats the security measures in place with the addition of the fencing. I'll also mention it in the next Vista Views.
STEAM SURVEY
Please remember to fill out Mary Fran's STEAM survey to help us craft a schedule that meets everyone's need. Thanks!
LOCK DOWN STRAP UPDATE
Unfortunately, the District is still waiting for delivery of the red straps. Over the weekend, a crew will be at Alta Vista to begin working on the D-ring that will be attached to the door frame. It's important that we all have time to get comfortable with the strap system before we have a drill. I'll keep you updated, but it looks like we will need to reschedule January 28th drill.
NEW FACES @ ALTA VISTA
You may be seeing some new faces around campus in the coming weeks, but I want to introduce you to our newest fourth grade teacher. Moriah will be taking family leave for the next few months. Although we will miss her, we are fortunate to have Deanna Howell stepping into room 16. Please be sure to stop in and say hello. We also have some student teachers will be joining us in the next few weeks. I'll share names and locations once they join us.
AVCS
One more plug to reach out to Evelyn to discuss any students who you feel might benefit from short term counseling services to support school-related issues. Have an idea for a small group? Let us know.
APPLE TV UPDATE
Just in case you missed Lisa's tech tip - We're hearing that there has been another Apple TV update. The iPad or Macbook trying to connect to the updated Apple TV might get a message about "Unable to connect". You will need to find the Apple TV remote (the little remote) and press the top "button" (trackpad). This will "wake up" the Apple TV. Press it again to click Continue. Be sure to try to connect to your Apple TV before you need it. Please let Lisa know if you need help.
ON YOUR RADAR
This is quickly sneaking up on us - yikes! School Leadership Team will discuss it on Tuesday, but please share any ideas that we should consider.

KUDOS
Thank you to Mikayla for reaching to a family with a "good news" email. She has a student who has had a rough year so far, but she took a few minutes to send a quick email celebrating a good week. Moments like that truly make a difference.
Thanks to Moriah for putting in the extra hours to help get Deanna ready to take over the classroom for the next few months.
Kudos to Manny! He works above and beyond the call of duty EVERY DAY to keep things looking beautiful and running smoothly.
