2016 Powder Puff Champions and Runner-Up
This past Friday was the annual Powder Puff Games where the girls play flag football and the boys are the cheerleaders. The pep rally and the games are a great way to end Red Ribbon/Spirit Week and one of the opportunities for our students to get involved in and show their school spirit.
Every year, Powder Puff gets bigger and better. Congratulations to all the coaches and students for giving of their time and energy in order to continue this tradition. Thank you for encouraging our students and remaining positive role models throughout. The level of sportsmanship and camaraderie was wonderful to see between the spectators, cheerleaders, coaches and players. If you have never been to this annual event, make sure you put it on your calendar for next year.
In the end, it does not matter who wins or loses but that they had the courage to show up and play. Studies have shown that girls who play sports do better in school, learn teamwork and goal-setting skills, and build self-confidence. Furthermore, exercise is good for our health and for reducing stress. But last Friday, there were champions who were crowned....
Congratulations to Coach Steve Parnell and the Senior girls for winning the Championship They played well and beat the Juniors in the championship game that went to overtime. The final score was 8-6.
Teachers, thank you for always giving of your time to provide learning opportunities for students beyond the school day.

Healthy lifestyle or unhealthy lifestyle?
Recently, healthy lifestyle is one of the top topics in our society. People have to deal every day with the world of food and exercise. The majority of the population have different reasons and motivation to be fit, and it also can depend on the age of the person. Some reasons might include: to lose weight, to prevent a disease, to take control of a disease, or to build muscles.
In the first place, a healthy diet should include eating vegetables and fruit. Good eating habits alone, however; are inadequate to ensure a healthy body, physical activity also helps to keep one in shape and free of disease. “A healthy diet is eating moderate portions. Not eating too much, it is setting a balance of fruit, vegetables, and meats.” Mr. Rutila, Adult and Community Education Coordinator expressed.
A healthy diet begins in the house with fresh meals containing the basic food groups, and focuses on balancing calories consumed with calories expended to help achieve and sustain a good health. Additionally, restricting the intake of solid fats, sugar ,salt, and alcohol can aid in a healthy life. Continuously, daily exercise is vital. People pay for gyms or a personal training to have physical health, it is important in order to complement one's healthy lifestyle. “It’s not too difficult to be physically healthy, you can do a lot of things, for example when you go to the store or mall, park far away and walk to your destination, and when you take the stairs instead to the elevator…” Mr. Rutila shared.
In conclusion, leading a healthy life should be important factor in our lives because not being fitness could bring us a lot of problems such as obesity, heart diseases, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and cancer. We must use caution, in this day and age where technology and bad habits can replace natural and healthy practices done in the past.
