Media Center Matters

A Quarterly Newsletter from the Woodland Media Center

Welcome Back!

We are so excited to see all of our Woodland Wildcats coming to the media center this year! Thank you to all students who participated in the Jump for Reading summer program. We had 129 students to participate this year. These students got to attend a jump party and play in a bounce house at school. The top summer readers from each grade level received a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble.

South Carolina Book Award program

All students have the opportunity to participate in the South Carolina Book Award program. Students in K5-2nd will read the Picture Book nominees during their media center class time and vote for their favorite book in February. Students in 3rd-5th have the option to participate in reading the Children's Book Award nominees. To participate, they must read at least 5 of the nominee books, complete the reading log, and vote in February. For more information about the South Carolina Book Award programs, please visit http://studysc.org/general-sc-book-awards/sc-book-awards

Read for the Record

Our school will participate in Jumpstart's Read for the Record on October 3rd. This year's book is Otis by Loren Long. For more information please visit the website http://www.jstart.org/campaigns/read-record.

Road Warriors Program

All students will receive an information packet about the Reading Warriors program sponsored by the Greenville Road Warriors hockey team. To complete the Road Warriors Program, your child is asked to read a minimum of 6 books in 5 weeks for the "Six for Sticks Challenge". After each book is read, use the reading log to note your child's progress. Upon completion, please return the reading log to your child's teacher NO LATER THAN October 25th. A ticket voucher will be sent home with your child from school as a reward for completing the challenge.

Overdrive and Tumblebooks

Did you know that we have tons of e-books available for students? We have subscriptions to both Overdrive and Tumblebooks. To access each database, please visit the Media Center website or click on the link in this newsletter. A username and password are required for each. If you need the login information, please email Pam Hill or Courtney Rouse. Happy Reading!
