STAAR and EOC Testing in May
The month of May here, and that means we at Longfellow Middle School are entering STAAR testing season. This year, the STAAR testing schedule has been extended due to our efforts to maintain appropriate social distancing between testing students during the COVID pandemic. In the interest of maintaining clear, open communication with you, our parents and guardians, we have created the chart below showing testing dates, the tests being administered, the students taking the tests, and the impacts of testing sessions on the schedules of students who are not testing on particular days.

8th-grade Math
8th-grade students
6th-, 7th-, and 8th-grade students come to campus. Regular school day.
On May 11th and 12th, a small number of students in 7th grade and 8th grade will also be taking Math and Reading tests, but these students’ parents/guardians will be notified in advance by their students’ counselors. Otherwise, all students will be following the STAAR testing schedule shown on the chart above.
It is important that all students take the STAAR tests this school year to assess their current levels of mastery of Texas’s state standards and to provide baseline testing data for students who have not taken state assessments since May 2019. These test results will be important in determining students’ progress when they take the STAAR again in Spring 2022. As a result, we are encouraging all students – both in-person and remote learners – to come to campus to test on the appropriate dates listed on the chart above.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance in navigating this unusual STAAR testing season. If you have any questions about Longfellow’s STAAR testing schedule or the importance of having your student take STAAR this school year, please contact us at Longfellow Middle School.

Registration
At Longfellow Middle School, we are preparing and looking forward to next school year. There are many staffing and scheduling issues to address in order to be ready when students return to school in August. As a result, we are encouraging all Longfellow families to complete enrollment now for the 2021-2022 school year.
Re-enrolling NOW for next school year is extremely important. Elective classes are already filling up, and students MUST BE ENROLLED in order to claim spots in their chosen electives. Students who do not re-enroll now may not be able to take their preferred elective classes in 2021-2022 school year.
Longfellow Middle School’s goal is for 100% of our returning students to complete re- enrollment as soon as possible. To help us achieve our 100% goal and assist our families with the re-enrollment process, 2nd period teachers have posted registration documents on Canvas.
In addition to completing the re-enrollment documents, parents will need to provide copies of their valid ID (e.g., driver’s license) and current proof of residency (e.g., CPS bill, water bill, or lease documents) in order to complete the required paperwork.
If you have any questions regarding registration or would like to send your documents electronically, please contact Longfellow Middle School’s main office at (210) 438-6520 for assistance.
International Baccalaureate Update!
Greetings Longfellow Community!
May is here and we are ready to teach our scholars about becoming more reflective!!!Reflective practice Reflective IB students approach unfamiliar situations and uncertainty with courage and forethought and have the independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas and strategies. They are brave and articulate in defending their beliefs.”
Studies have shown that reflective practice has huge benefits in increasing self-awareness, which is a key component of emotional intelligence, and in developing a better understanding of others. Reflective practice also helps develop creative thinking skills and encourages active engagement in work processes.
Here is a resource that provides practical things you can do every day to help your child become more reflective.
