What we're learning this week...

Phonics: Long vowels

Book: Red by Michael Hall, and we will also be starting a unit on nonfiction text features

Reading Strategies: story mapping (beginning, middle, end), identifying the problem and solution, making a connection to the text, informative text features, fiction vs. nonfiction texts

Math: Addition word problems, number handwriting practice, fluency of addition and subtraction within 10, partners of 10 (how to make 10), review of teen numbers as a group of ten and extra ones

Writing: Writing our opinions, letter formation (handwriting practice), 5 star writing rubric (finger spaces, proper punctuation, capital letters at the beginning of the sentence, spelling sight words correctly, does my writing make sense?)

Social Studies: Community helpers (we will have a special visitor this week!)

Science: Insects, Life cycle of plants

Religion: Church Year: Lent

Social Skills: Following instructions and listening

Virtue: Diligence

Social and Emotional Learning: Students discuss the importance of speaking up in a respectful way and practice how to speak up and speak kindly.

Thursday, 4/14 - Holy Thursday Prayer Service @ 11:20 (parents welcome to attend!), 12:30 Dismissal, NO EXTENDED CARE!

Friday, 4/15 - Good Friday - NO SCHOOL

Learning practice at home

Homework is optional in Kindergarten, but I would strongly encourage and suggest you take some time each night to choose one of the learning resources below and work with your child for 15-20 minutes. Need login info? Just let me know, and I am happy to send it! Please remember to read with your child each night, and give them plenty of opportunities to read texts at their reading level. Keep practicing sight words too!
