PhotoJournalism Portfolio

Written Reflection

Photojournalism was a great experience, I've definitely learned a lot and have enjoyed learning it. I learned all the types of lighting and the history of photojournalism. My favorite part was when we created the ABC stores, I enjoyed having to think about it and be creative. My least favorite was probably learning the history of photojournalism. I've grown to love photography more than I already did. I now know how to tell a story with my pictures, not just how to take one. The best part was that I had a greta teacher to make it fun and not boring. I never dreaded coming to this class, I always loved it here. Theres always a smile on Mrs. Bradberry' s face and that made me smile.

Hansel Meith

Hansel worked for LIFE magazine.

She was best known for her social commentary.

She was a Vagabond Photographer.

She took photos for LIFE magazine

In the beginning she used a second-hand Leica camera.

She photographed the hardships and gruesome details that this world contains, like Japanese Americans taken from their home and brutal working conditions.

Hansel herself didn’t win any awards, she did have awards named after her.

Hansel ran away from home when she was 15, and worked in manual labor. But she soon fled to america with her lover, a fellow photographer Otto Hagel.

She made a film about the cotton pickers in California, but her apartment was raided and it was lost. BUt it mysteriously came back up again as “ A Century in Progress.”

Hansels work was vital to LIFE magazine.
