Movement in Children & Youth: Understanding the importance of why & how much
Most of us know we should be physically active, but do we truly understand why movement is important for children, and ourselves?
Learning to move well gives children the ability, confidence, and desire to be energetic and lead a physically active life.
“Movement positively impacts both the mind and the body,” says Sarah Hoffman, DO, Maine Medical Partners Sports Medicine. “We see noticeable improvements in children’s emotional health with increased physical activity. Other benefits include improvement in academic performance and sleep which helps set children up for lifelong health.”

First Annual Roberts Farm Decomposer Appreciation Contest Winners
Recently, our fifth-grade students submitted entries into the First Annual Roberts Farm Decomposer Appreciation Contest. The contest prompt was as follows:
"We are looking for original projects focused on the importance of decomposers. Your project should explain how decomposers are involved in the movement of matter and how they help maintain a healthy ecosystem."
Two of our OES fifth graders tied for first place, Kylie from Mrs. Gordon's class and Emma from Ms. Guerrette's class. Congratulations to these students! They will each receive their own field microscope to keep. In addition, Levi from Mrs. Lavertu's class had a project that earned him an honorable mention.
