COLLIER ADULT EDUCATION
Tuesday, April 16, 2019
Message from the Leadership Team.
We have had a busy week of workshops, professional developments and strategic planning. We had 15 teachers participate in a hands-on ESOL workshop where they analyzed their classroom data and created strategies to address areas of need. Each ESOL workshop builds on the prior with the objective of “arming” teachers with data to help inform instruction and to put into practice the ability to write purposeful lesson plans designed to engage the adult learner. Our ABE/GED instructors met for a “round-table workshop” designed to: share best practices; explore Essential Ed; introduce “Student Success Plans”; discuss upcoming FLDOE/TABE changes, and address questions and challenges. A lot of ground was covered and we are presently planning our ABE/GED follow-up workshop.
A team of ESOL experts have begun work on ESOL Orientation 2.0. The team met to begin brainstorming “How a new orientation might look” and “How the flow from A-Z will work”. A lot of new and interesting ideas were discussed and the team will be meeting a gain in short order to continue with the goal of having Orientation 2.0 ready for all sites to model by the start of fall 2019.
Finally, we continue to work on our 2019-2020 calendar. The calendar has a lot of vital information beyond start and finish dates and we greatly appreciate the feedback and suggestions we have gotten from our LWD team. We will make the calendar available shortly. As you can see professional development opportunities and continuous improvement of our programs are high priorities. We’d like to thank all of you who have participated in the recent workshops and brainstorming/planning sessions.
Reminder: If you are interested in teaching with us this summer, we ask that you commit to the entire summer calendar (June 4 - July 25). Please let us know of your interest in teaching this summer by clicking and completing the questionnaire/survey. https://forms.gle/99tcYjfzDZqXf4UP8
