Boys the Hoops in MS Playoffs
Congratulations to our boys team who played on Saturday in the quarterfinals on the Middle School Basketball tournament.
At the last faculty meeting the Site Curriculum Specialists did a presentation on building vocabulary and asked staff to fill out a survey. The results from the survey were that most staff wanted to know more about the usage of “word walls” in the classroom.
Based on the NCUST book, research has shown that strategically selecting words from a unit and having a word wall is highly effective. On the most recent PLC meeting, this subject was discussed in all departments. Part of the plan presented was the idea of peer classroom visits in order to improve teaching practices in regards to building vocabulary. In the next 3 days Administration and the SCSs will be popping in classrooms. If you would like to do an observation with one of us, please let us know, the more the merrier.
What will we be looking for?
1. Is there a word wall in the classroom?
2. Are the words current with the lesson being taught?
3. How are the words being used by students in the classroom?
4. Can students explain what the words mean?
Every observation will be kept anonymous. This will give some baseline data on where we are at with this implementation. - SCS
Congratulations to the following Read to Succeed Winners!
