March 23, 2018
First, I must thank you for your understanding in the rescheduling of Mustang Fest. Our PTO struggled with this decision but the greater part (bouncy attractions and mechanical rides) of the family day would not have been available with wind or rain. Thank you!
I do want to extend a huge thank you to our parents who have been able to attend our Student Led Conferences (SLCs). Part of our students' learning focuses on presentations to different audiences. SLCs give each child an adult audience in a more formal setting. As I reminded you in my email for our March 2nd newsletter, Student Led Conferences are focused on the student.
Many thanks to our students and teachers for their hard work in preparing for this special opportunity to present with a very focused purpose about relevant data!!
Please remember if you need to have a parent-teacher conference, you may schedule these with your child's teacher. Our doors are open and it takes the village to raise a child! We are in this together.
This Friday, March 30, will be our Field Day!! This is the most awesome day of the year!! Please consider volunteering or participating with your child. It is an all day event filled with physical activities and games. Once again there is great focus on teamwork in many of the activities. Many thanks to our PE teachers, Laura Gates, and Anna Owens, for coordinating this opportunity!
Have a wonderful weekend! Read a great book with your child and practice self-care with physical workouts. These are all great family time opportunities!
Yours truly,
Jan Fickling, Principal Midway Elementary

4th grade Science of Sound and Music Collaborate
As a cumulative performance task for the fourth grade Science of Sound Unit, the students designed and created instruments using recycled materials. Throughout the unit, the students studied sound concepts related to music and instruments during music classes. Miss Trent and Mrs. Rogers invited the students to bring their instruments to a music lesson. The students categorized their instruments by what part of the instrument starts the vibration. They formed an orchestra and improvised a sound piece. The performance required the students to follow the conductor carefully and play their instruments musically. Enjoy Mrs. Metz's homeroom performance video. While you listen, close your eyes and imagine a movie that has the sound piece as its film score.
Here is the Google link for the video.
