A Word from our Online Team!
During this fall semester, there have been many opportunities to reflect on how thankful we are for the outstanding scholars, learning coaches, and teachers who are dedicated and work together to ensure each scholar reaches their goals and achieves academic success.
We are also thankful for the great connection meetings that have taken place so far this year. With the use of the Online Personalized Learning Plan, supervising teachers, learning coaches, and scholars have been able to have rich discussions that focus on personalized learning and scholar needs.
We want to say thank you to all of our families who have made this fall fantastic! We look forward to the upcoming months and continue to personalize learning for all of our scholars and ask ourselves, to quote Charlie Brown, “What if today, we were just grateful for everything?”
Many Thanks!
The Online Learning Team
What is New in Online Learning?
Our Elementary scholars have been working diligently on their school work, IXL, and attending live sessions. In addition, the K-1 department celebrated Veterans Day and the first Thanksgiving in their learning labs.
Our second graders spent time studying the author. Kevin Henkes. The scholars completed a depiction of the main character from his book, Chrysanthemum.
Our 4 and 5 graders finished reading and completing projects for their first book study, The One and Only Ivan and LOVED it.
One of the highlights during October was the annual Halloween Costume Parade, in which all of our online elementary scholars had a chance to show off their fun costumes and share about themselves.
Online Middle School scholars have been working daily with a Daily Dose of Math in their live learning labs, which includes a chance to win a Panda Express coupon and an Amazon raffle!
Our Science department welcomed a guest speaker via Skype and enjoyed a Spooky Science Learning Lab with Mrs. Angelo. The History classes have also been discussing the first Thanksgiving in preparation for Fall Break.
Online High School learning lab attendance is soaring, and scholars are having a blast working synchronously with teachers in their core classes. Speaking of making connections, this fall has been an excellent time for our mid-week supervising teacher/homeroom sessions where scholars come together to practice fundamental math skills, review key study strategies, and work on college and career readiness activities.
In terms of engagement beyond the virtual walls of our school, our own Ms. Sharon Rosen has been leading the charge to get scholars to complete the California State Seal of Civic Engagement. This great initiative helps develop civic development and understanding in young adults across the Golden State!
The entire Online Learning Team is looking forward to the rest of the school year and all of the great opportunities our scholars get to learn new things!

Scholar Spotlight
Meet Camilla J.K., Senior Online Scholar
My name is Camilla, and I am a 17-year-old senior at Compass Charter Schools of Los Angeles. My family is small but diverse, my mom is Mexican, and my dad is Korean.
We chose Compass because it allowed me to assimilate myself into the American educational system while giving me the chance to learn at my own pace and to participate in extracurricular activities without the constraints of a rigid school schedule.
My favorite activities outside of school are swimming and playing the violin. I also like baking, reading, and sewing. With Compass, I have the time to do all of this and more! Compass is preparing me to face any obstacles with a positive and determined mindset and the knowledge I will need to continue my studies in the future.
Staff Spotlight
Meet Ms. Sarah Eagleton, Online Elementary Teacher!
Ms. Eagleton is a 5-Grade online teacher who has worked here for five years! What she enjoys most about working at Compass is creating an inclusive learning environment for all of her scholars.
One piece of advice she gives to all of her families is to ask for help or guidance. Ms. Eagleton shares, “Asking for help or guidance is not a sign of weakness, but instead shows your dedication to your scholar’s educational journey.”
One thing that few people know about Ms. Eagleton is that she is a cyclist. She said, “I am a cyclist who used to participate in six-day, 500-mile bicycle rides to raise money for the American Cancer Society. These days, with my five and two-year-old daughters, I’m more likely to be on my Peloton bike than on my road bike!”
Ms. Eagleton likes to spend her free time visiting her family in San Francisco, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. She and her family are often traveling to visit family or on a road trip exploring new cities. Ms. Eagleton especially loves to spend winter break in Oregon or Pennsylvania, where it snows! During the spring and fall, she loves camping, fishing, and finding rivers to float down.
