Principal's Message

It's been wonderful having double the students back in the building! There's a different "buzz" when more are gathered! As we are gearing up for our final six weeks of learning together, there are things that families can do to help their child in their education.

  • Maintain a consistent bedtime and morning routine. This year more than ever, we are finding many students are sleepy during school hours. Some share that they have devices in their bedrooms at night. One way to increase the chances of uninterrupted sleep is to ensure there are no devices in the bedroom with children at night. This is also for their safety.
  • Ensure high expectations for student's work ethic and behavior. We know students rise to the occasion, so continue to expect much of them and support them in getting there.
  • Students should read for 30 minutes each night. Research supports this practice. It grows students' vocabulary, develops background knowledge, and improves literacy AND math skills.
  • Talk to your students every day about their school day. It's a great bonding experience for family and child, and you learn more about your child's interests and needs.

Reach out to us with any questions or needs. Thank you for partnering with us in your child's education!

In the Classroom

Sterling Elementary School was selected by LCPS and George Mason University to serve as the clinical site school within the county. Our teachers have been selected to train pre-career teachers, hosting interns in their classrooms for the graduate students' year-long internship. See some of their great work in action! Our interns will graduate on May 14. We are so proud of them and our staff!

Look what our students did in their after-school enrichment program! See a few of the robotic cranes and bulldozers below!
