Message from Mrs. Carey!

Dear KES families,

Happy Thursday and hope this finds you well! A friendly reminder that tomorrow we are celebrating "70's DAY"! Can't wait to see our boys and girls sporting some 70's outfits! This means we have about 70 days of school left. Now, more than ever, let's make each day count!

This is a great time of year to remind your child about making good choices, displaying great manners, and showing positive behaviors at home, school, and out in the community. We have amazing KES Tigers and they should be following our Code of Conduct: Respect Self, Respect Others, and Respect Property. Our students are very familiar with what this looks and sounds like in their classrooms, Unified Arts, the hallways, cafeteria, and playground. The ultimate goal is for our students to earn positive referrals and positive calls home for displaying these great character traits! (If your child hasn't already earned one!)

The Future Chef Event is BAAAACCKK!! Check out the flyers attached to our message. Additionally, we have a ton of important information below so make sure you check out the rest of our newsletter!

Upcoming dates below:

  • February 25th: Celebrate 70's Day! Only about 70 days of school left!
  • February 28th-March 4th: Read Across America SPIRIT Week! (linked below)
  • March 4th: 1/2 Day for students

  • March 11th: 1/2 Day for students; Grading for all staff

Wishing you all a fabulous Thursday and the rest of the week!!!

Mrs. Michelle Carey

Future Chef is back!

I am excited to report that after a 2-year hiatus Sodexos' Future Chef competition is back! For those of you unfamiliar with this event, it is an opportunity for any aspiring 1st- 5th grade chefs to showcase their culinary skills in a county-wide competition. This year's event will be structured slightly differently than in years past. Rather than having mini qualifying rounds throughout the county, there will only be one event held on Wednesday, March 30th at Queen Anne's County High School.

Any interested student in grades 1-5 can submit a recipe and 5 lucky contestants will be chosen to compete on March 30th. Recipes MUST be submitted by March 7th to the cafeteria manager. A copy of the recipe card is attached and the cafeteria manager will also have blank recipe cards for students who are interested. Copies are also available in the front office.

Joe Corbi's Pick Up~!

Remember to pick up your Joe Corbi's Fundraising items on Thursday, March 3rd from 4:00-6:30pm!! It's important that we get all orders picked up as storage isn't an option at the school for temperature sensitive items. Please ask a family member, neighbor or friend to help out if you cannot pick up at this time. Thank you again for your support.

Just for signing up for our "Plunge" you will receive these Cool gifts!

Students need to remember their own water bottles daily! We are still not able to use our water fountains, only the bottle fill up stations at this time.

Please remind your child to check our Lost & Found in the Cafeteria! There are many coats and items on there that are necessary for going outside on their breaks!

Morning Math Opportunity!

Morning math will be available next week from 8:35-9:00 each day. Students are welcome to drop in as needed for homework help, or to develop a better understanding of current math topics. Contact Mrs. Phillips if you have any questions at
