Pre-K
Maryville City Schools operates a voluntary pre-k program at two of our elementary schools. Children must qualify to attend based on the following:
1. Child and guardian are city of Maryville residents
2. Child will be 4 on or before August 15, 2020
3. Total household income falls within the parameters of the 2020 US Health and Human Services poverty guidelines.
Families who meet these requirements and are interested in applying for pre-K may pick up the applications any time the school office is open. Applicants may return paperwork to JSE or the central office at 833 Lawrence Avenue. Applicants will also be required to submit proof of residency (mortgage or lease and utility) and income verification. If your student is approved other documents will be required, such as proof of immunizations, proof of birth, and social security card. Those who attend City of Maryville Schools finishing 3rd and 4th grade are invited to apply to experience what it is like to be a firefighter for a week. At the Maryville Fire Department firefighters fight fire, extricate people from vehicles, and perform emergency medicine, along with many other technical skills. Jr. Rookie School is a chance to learn about fire safety and what it takes to be a firefighter in a safe and fun atmosphere. Those chosen will learn a few skills in almost every aspect of the exciting career of firefighting. There will be hands on experience dragging hose, spraying water, working with ropes and knots, search and rescue, and CPR.
The Jr. Rookie must be able to be dropped off at location of the day between 8-8:30am and picked up by 3:00 June 8-11. Jr. Rookie should have already eaten breakfast and bring their own lunch.
Thursday June 11, 2020 will be a family cookout at 6:00 pm. There is a possibility the Jr. Rookie will be invited to spend the night at the fire station. Friday is firehall style breakfast with firefighter relays and graduation at 11:00. Child should be picked up by 12:30 on Friday June 12th.
Applications are Due by March 13, 2020. They can be dropped off at Maryville Fire Station 1 or mailed to:

One Book Blitz
We enjoyed reading our One Book Blitz selection, The Cricket in Times Square by George Selden. Students completed the book last week. We will wrap up One Book Blitz festivities on Monday, March 2nd. This date is also known as "Read Across America Day". On March 2nd, staff and students are encouraged to dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss character.
JSE students in grades 1-3 will be going to Maryville High School on March 6th to watch the MHS Theatre Arts production of The Cricket in Times Square. There will also be evening and weekend performances if your family would like to attend. See flyer below for details.
