Happy New Year!

Principal's Message

Welcome to 2014! We hope you had a chance to relax and re-energize over the holiday break. It is great to see that we have all survived the "Polar Vortex of 2014." We appreciate all of your cooperation in making sure the children are dressed warmly during these cold winter days.

As we begin 2014, we have some new and familiar faces at Groveland. We would like to welcome the following staff members to Groveland:

Mrs. Michelle Sautello - 4th grade teacher

Mrs. Nori Jacobson - ESL Educational Assistant

Mrs. Elizabeth Weinseimer - Special Education Assistant

The Explorers Clubs have started at Groveland. Thank you to the many volunteers who are spending their time providing enjoyable after school activities for our students. We ask that parents are prompt in picking up their children from the Explorers Clubs each day. Club sessions end at 4:55 PM and students must be picked up by 5:00 PM.

In December, our school launched The Groveland News Network (GNN). On Friday mornings, our morning announcments are now televised! Many of the sixth grade students have volunteered to be anchors and producers each week. Look out Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie - Groveland has some very talented students who have done a super job for us so far!! Hats off to the following students who have been anchors & producers:

Anchors: Nadir Elmrant, Jessica Broskey, Jake Lang, Lindsey Horton, Joe Trimbur, Sammi Zanine, Abby Killough, & Ryan Angrisani

Producers: Sean O'Donnell, Brandon Hampstead, Dan Cohen, Alec Mettin & Dillon Weiss

Do you have any used ink cartridges at your house? Our office continues to accept ink cartridges from your printers at home. If you would like to donate printer cartridges, please send them to the main office at Groveland.

Looking ahead, we are nearing the end of the second marking period in the next few weeks, as the marking period ends on January 24th. Our students and staff continue to work hard each and every day. Thank you to our parents who work as a team with us to make sure our students have the best experience here at Groveland. Wishing all of the Groveland Community a very happy and healthy new year!

What A Surprise!

Private Ryan Suber, a former Groveland Grizzly, made a surprise visit before the holiday break to his brother and sister, Jey (4th Mrs. Reppa) & Susan (1st Mrs. Frantz). Private Suber has been away for several weeks at basic training, and according to Mrs. Suber, the family was not sure if Ryan was going to be able to make it home for the holidays. Once they found out that he would be able to visit for a short while, Mrs. Suber contacted the school counselor and teachers to arrange the surprise. On December 20th, Ryan made it home and came to Groveland to surprise his younger siblings. What a joyful surprise it was for all of those who were in the classrooms to witness the surprise visit! The look on both Jey's and Susan's faces when they saw their big brother was priceless. This is yet another reminder that the best gifts in life are not those that can be bought in a store. We wish Private Suber the best of luck, and send him a big Thank You for serving our country!

Calendar Revisions

The School Board will vote on January 14th to revise the district calendar as follows:

Monday, January 27th will no longer be a “snow make-up” day. Instead, it will remain a Professional Development Day – no school for students – keeping any staff development workshops, curriculum development, or trade day option in place. This moves the last day for students to Friday, June 13th.

Jump Rope for Heart - A Huge Success

In November, Groveland students participated in the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart Program during their physical education classes. A HEARTFELT THANK YOU to all who helped to raise money for the American Heart Association. Groveland's total contribution from this event was $4052.50!! By participating in this event, we are able to reinforce the important lifelong habits of eating right, exercising, and staying tobacco free. The money raised by the American Heart Association is used to fund research and create outstanding educational and advocacy programs for both children and adults.

Bus Driver Appreciation Day

Bus Driver Appreciation February 14, 2014

In order to show our bus drivers that we appreciate their commitment to the children here at Groveland, we will be celebrating Bus Driver Appreciation Day on Friday, February 14th.

Starting February 4th to February 13th there will be baskets in the main hallway with bus numbers on them for students to bring in small tokens of appreciation for their bus drivers. Some suggestions of items you could contribute to the baskets include:

A hand drawn picture or card

A note or poem

Small box of nuts or candy

Flowers

We will deliver these baskets to our bus drivers on February 14th at a special buffet breakfast. We hope you will join us in honoring these wonderful people and show them how much they are truly appreciated.
