What's NXT?
NXT is a developmental professional wrestling brand for WWE, located at Full Sail University, in Winter Park, Florida. The brand was founded in August 2012 and was formerly known as FCW, another developmental brand located in Tampa, Florida, and NXT Wrestling, as a reality competition show. It replaced ECW, a former WWE brand. NXT is a brand that aids in the development of the "next generation" of WWE Superstars and Divas and gets them ready for the main roster.
Facts and Statistics About NXT
There are currently 41 Superstars and 13 Divas on the NXT Roster. There are three championships, the NXT Championship, the NXT Women's Championship, and the NXT Tag Team Championship. The current main trainers of NXT are Jason Albert, the Head Coach, and Sara Del Rey, the Assistant Head Coach. William Regal, a retired wrestler, is the General Manager of NXT. Triple H, a Hall of Famer and COO of WWE, owns and controls NXT.
NXT Taking Over?
Despite NXT's status as developmental, NXT has gotten praise for the quality of wrestling and storyline. Traces of NXT have also gone onto the main roster. For example, Seth Rollins, the 1st NXT Champion and former NXT Superstar, is now the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Another example is Paige, the 1st NXT Women's Champion and former NXT Diva, is a 2x Divas Champion. People have considered NXT more than a development brand because of its success, including the owner of NXT, Triple H; "This is no longer a developmental brand, this is a brand."
