The Principal's Office
Thank you to the families that were able to join us for the panel discussion. I hope that you found it helpful as we continue to navigate through these uncharted waters. We have begun the process of gathering the belongings that our students have left in the building. We are hoping to have a plan for picking up these items during the week of June 8th...stay tuned for further information. I meet with the teachers every week to discuss the progress that our students are making. I am exciting to hear about the lessons that students are attending on Zoom. I am even more excited that teachers have been able to share some of the projects and schoolwork that our students have been completing. I encourage you all to keep our students engaged in the fun activities the teachers have prepared!!!

This week's Extended Learning focus area:
Animal Adaptations - How do animals use their body parts and senses in different ways to see, hear, protect themselves, move, seek and find food?
1.Create your own animal out of recycled materials. (ex: water bottle with cap for a fish, cereal box, tissue tube, box,) Think about how some of the animals adapt to stay safe in their habitat.
Look at pictures in books or online about animals. What do you notice about how these animals have adapted to stay alive in their habitat?
2. Go on a nature walk outside today. Pretend you are an animal. Listen for the sounds around you. What do you hear? Think about what those sounds might mean to an animal. Would some sounds be scary or make them happy? What sounds might make them curious or mad?

CLOSEST TO … You’ll need a deck of cards for this game.
Select the number of digits to be in the numbers for this game, e.g. 2 digit numbers or 3 digit numbers. Each player is dealt that number of cards. The aim of the game is to arrange their cards to make a number as close as possible to 50 if making 2-digit numbers, or 500 if making 3-digit numbers. The player with the closest number wins the round and scores one point. Play until all cards are gone. (10 min.)

Focus of the week:
Working Toward Independence- Learning is an experience that occurs in many ways our whole lives. In some ways we learn the same, in some ways different. As we look towards this strange end to your elementary education it is time to reflect on all the strategies and skills you have learned along the way. All designed to help you become a better more independent learner. What skills stuck with you in math, in reading, in writing? Life teaches us many things. So do our educators. This week, focus on those skills and strategies that help you grow and understand as a learner. What will you retain and bring forward to help guide you in your middle school experience?
