May Crowning 2017
The month of May is traditionally dedicated to Mary in many cultures. May is considered the season of the beginning of new life. May crowning is a traditional Roman Catholic ritual. A wreath of flowers is placed on the head of a statue of Mary to indicate her virtues, virtues that we are to imitate. The wreath signifies her as Queen of Heaven.
It is important to note--as Catholics, we do not worship Mary--we only worship God. However we acknowledge Mary, not only as the Mother of God, but as our mother.

Mary, Our Mother, we crown you as our queen.
You were given to us by your son Jesus Christ,
as he hung on the cross, reconciling us to the Father.
Watch over us with a mother’s care and love.
Help us to be faithful to God.
Help us to love one another.
Help us to bring peace to our families,
to our school,
to our community,
and to our world.
We ask you to guide us during our journey on earth,
and lead us home to your Son Jesus
at the end of our lives.
Amen.
