Spartan Spiel

North Park Elementary

Principal Points

  • Happy Fall! Typical Missouri weather has arrived! Make sure to send appropriate clothing for your child to play outside. Unless it is raining, we do go outside.
  • Conferences are just around the corner! Watch for letters to sign your child up for conferences. We will send a confirmation letter for set times. We look forward to sharing your child's successes with you very soon! We strive for 100% attendance at conferences, so if the time doesn't work for you, contact your teacher to set up a new time. We will meet with each family and look forward to doing so!
  • October 3rd if McTeacher Night! Teachers and administrators will be there on a rotation for 4:30-8. A percentage of the proceeds sold during that time is given back to our school. We look forward to seeing you there!
  • Walk to School Day is Wed. Oct. 4th at 8:00am at the corner of Franklin Ave and St. Charles streets. If it is raining, we will not be walking that day.

PBS

North Park is a PBiS school. What that means is that we support students with positive language and expectations. We reward students, classrooms and building for putting for their best effort, being responsible and respectful. Spartan bucks are giving to each student that can cash them in for prizes of their choosing. Classrooms keep track of compliments and other positive behaviors and have classwide rewards. We also keep track of "spartan heads" on our gumball machine and when we fill it up, we have a building wide celebration. Ask you child about the expectations and share in their success!

LIbrary News

We're having a wonderful time in the library and computer lab. By now, all classes are checking out books. Please remember to have your student return their book by library day so they may check out again. Also, please remind your student not to place full water bottles in their backpacks. We've lost many new library books due to leaks and water damage. Thank you!

Title I Helpful Hints

Research has shown that the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is READING ALOUD TO CHILDREN. Fall is a great time to snuggle together with your child and read a book to them! Here are a few great Fall books you will want to read with your child…

Autumn: An Alphabet Acrostic by Steven Schnur

Autumn Leaves by Ken Robbins

Corn is Maize by Aliki

The Little Scarecrow Boy by Margaret Wise Brown

Why Do Leaves Change Color? by Betsy Maestro

Does your child get bored with Sight Word Flash Cards? Try this activity…..Write 8 to 10 Sight Words your child can’t read quickly yet on a blank sheet of paper, spacing them out all over the page. Have students dip a bottle cap into some paint, stamp it over the Sight Word that “YOU” call out. They will love searching for the word you say, and getting to “stamp it” with paint! Your child’s teacher can supply you with Sight Words if needed. The Book It! Reading Incentive Program (sponsored by Pizza Hut) begins in October! This is an excellent program designed to inspire your child to develop a love of reading, and to strengthen reading skills by practicing at home. For more information about Book It!, contact your child’s classroom teacher.
