**PTO got shirts for each child at Jackson for the Fun Run on the 15th. Please send your child in a long sleeve shirt as I'm sure the weather will be chilly. We will put our shirts on over the top of our long sleeve shirts (or possibly jackets). Tennis shoes must be worn for this day.
**The kindergarten parent breakfast is being sponsored by our PTO for the second time this year. It's a great way to mingle with parents in your child's classroom and to see what PTO is all about! This is happening before school begins. If you have any questions, they may be answered on the Jackson Parents Facebook page.

Check out our classroom flag. This will be used as we run as a group.
What we learned
Take a look into our class
- We are learning a bit about nonfiction texts.
- Kindergartners learned about their five senses and we did a variety of activities surrounding them--it was a lot of hands on learning and interactions for the kids!
- The kindergarteners and I also made an interrupting chart for our small guided reading groups. After MEA, small groups will be in full swing during our center time. I'm excited to jump into the guided reading process!
Writing:
- I continued to model the five steps of writing, and the kinders clapped and counted the words in their sentences while I watched them draw lines to represent the words. Writing beginning sounds for each line is HUGE right now and something that is very much so stressed in our room.
Handwriting:
- New masters of letters: g, q, s and f----these include the "c stroke" or "tall line down" from our handwriting unit.
Poem/Phonics:
- Poem: Baa, Baa Black Sheep
- New HFW: for, my
- Reviewed HFW: the, to, + and
- Rhyming words: "Down By the Bay" was continued to be used to create and identify rhyming words.
Math:
- Numbers 1-6 have been introduced using EZ write handwriting. All kindergarteners should be able to write these numbers correctly without the help of a poster.
- We continue with our everyday math routine of counting forwards, backwards and counting in groups. We also continue to practice subitizing.
Theme:
- Our theme surrounded reading this week and building our knowledge of our five senses!
- We learned about fire safety this week as well.
