McKay High School Weekly Update

Week of May 8th -- 12th

Message from the Admin Team

Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher.– Japanese Proverb

This week we stop to take a moment to appreciate our classroom teachers at McKay. Everyday these leaders step up to the challenge, and work to get the best out of our students. At McKay High School we believe that excellence is taking place in every corner of the building, and our teachers lead the charge. We invite any of you community members to reach out to an educator (in our building or outside of McKay) that have had a positive impact on the lives of our students. Let that educator know that they are appreciated.

We are welcoming the final six weeks of the school year. This time might bring a bit more pressure on the shoulders of the students. Please make yourself aware of what is happening in the classrooms, and work to help your student navigate the challenges that come at the end of the school year.

Shout Outs (Academic, Athletics, Activities)

This week saw more success for McKay High School. As you will see below our McKay Choir placed second at the OSSA choir championship. This group of students have worked so hard this year, congratulations are in order. Below that you can also read a story about the Scots-Apella group that traveled to New York a few weeks ago, and their continued success. With spring activities coming to a close, it is likely that we will continue to experience success at McKay High. This week we will host our Prom on Friday May 12 at the Willamette Heritage Center, tickets are on sale all week.

Safety Updates

McKay Entrances and Exits:

Recently we have had to remind our McKay student body that all visitors to the building, and or students arriving late need to enter through the main office entrance. We have seen students opening doors for others, as well as propping doors open that should remain locked throughout the day. We all know the importance of safety, and for that reason we have posted new signs outside of popular exits in the building. Along those same lines we are monitoring exits, and moving forward students who are found to be opening(propping) doors may face behavioral consequences.
