Fall Festival
Dear Teachers and Staff,
This year Fall Festival will be on Thursday, October 31st. Our theme this year is FALL. Students, teachers and staff can dress in costumes! There are several scheduled events, along with a craft activity that you can do at your convenience. We will follow our regular lunch schedule. Below is an update on the various events:
- This year we will be kicking off our day with a school-wide costume parade. Everyone has the option of wearing a costume for the parade. We will be parading around the big bus loop, walking down the sidewalk by the gym and back into the building by the Clock Tower. Each class can create a classroom banner to carry while processing. In the event of inclement weather, we will have the parade inside.
The parade will be starting at 9:15 am. Classes will be called down to the foyer at that time.
- El-Vi farm has graciously offered to help us out again this year with hayrides, woohoo!!! The hayride will be taking the children through Perkins Park. You may wish to have a list of possible songs in mind so you can sing as you ride. Please be prepared and on time. There is limited adult space on the hayride for teachers only. Please consider who else you are riding with as some classes will need to split up. Please try and decide this amongst those classes beforehand.
- This year the students will be decorating a cookie. It will take place in the old gym. Individual supplies will be ready for each student and there will be staff available to help assist the children with decorating. They will be decorating the cookies on paper plates. You may want to bring your own baking sheets/trays to help transport the cookies back to your room. Any questions, please see Cheryl Robbins or Val Michaels
- Lara Larsson will be planning stories/songs in the LGI. For the majority of our classes, this will be a 25-minute event and teachers are asked to stay with your class during this time.
- NEW This Year – A fall themed Photo Booth!! Classes can get their pictures taken during Fall Festival by our very own Cari Taylor! Then, each student can make a frame as the craft. Each student can put their “fall festival class picture” in the frame to take home. The craft supplies will be delivered to you. This craft activity will be done in your room at a time that is convenient with your schedule. Please check to make sure you have the correct number of crafts and all the necessary pieces. If you need more supplies, please see Katy Barker. The Photo Booth will be located out by the BIG bus loop and pictures can be taken AFTER your hayride.
- Please consider donating items to help transform Perkins School for Fall Festival. We are looking for donations of pumpkins, corn stalks, hay bales, gourds, scarecrows, Indian corn or any other fall items to decorate our foyer/atrium area. Please drop off these items to Christine VanDemortel.
- Our Staff Luncheon will be in the Library. There will be delicious goodies set up for lunch for all teachers and staff. The sign-up will be in both Main Offices. We ask that you contribute a lunch item if you plan to enjoy the lunch. If you have any questions, please see Kelly Faust.
- Teachers will have a scheduled 15-minute break while their class enjoys a game in the Foxtail Gym with Sue Moak. Please make arrangements with a TA for an additional 15-minute break at some point during the day. **Teachers may also want to ask parents to join them for the day, or part of the day to assist with the various events.**
- The Face Painting event will be in the foyer outside the Foxtail Gym. Thank you Courtney Dentel and staff for helping out!
- There will be a PTA sponsored hospitality room for families to visit during down time in classrooms. It will be in the Home Living Center Thank you to Henrietta Binda for decorating the room and to the PTA for providing refreshments!
- There will be a basket of read-alouds outside each event that can be enjoyed if you get to an event early or finish something early. Thanks for the books, Kelly Puckett!
- Classroom teachers – when sending home information to families about Fall Festival, please be sure to include times that families are able to join their children in activities (parade, face painting, game, storytelling, cookie decorating) and those times when they can visit the Hospitality room.
Fall Festival is going to be a fun-filled for all this year!
If you have any questions, please see a Fall Festival Committee Member
