The Weekly Howl
St. Francis Catholic School - Sunday, September 29th
Dear Parents & Friends of SFCS,
In this edition of the Howl you will see many special events that are coming up. First is the annual Parish Picnic that will occur Sunday, October 6th. This is a very fun event for the family and it is a wonderful time for good food, fellowship and fun. If you purchased t-shirts earlier this year with the school then you already have paid for your admission to the Picnic. If you did not purchase a t-shirt then you can still come by purchasing tickets in either the school or parish office. Hope to see you there.
The FSA also has a few events that they are planning. First the Family Faith Formation Committee will be beginning the next family Fall Group Study on Sundays. Also we will be partnering with Sea Smiles Pediatric Dentistry in organizing a Candy Bounce Back drive on November 1st. We will be competing against other schools in donating leftover or extra Halloween candy. The school that collects the most (by weight, lbs.) will receive $1,000.00 towards the schools parent organization. We got this SFCS!!!
Also coming up is the very popular FSA Pottery Jam and a FSA Reindeer Run. Information for all of the activities is included below in this Howl. Check them out and they all look to be great activities and events.
I hope everyone has a great night and see everyone tomorrow!
Sincerely in Christ,
Brian Pope
Principal

People all around the world use bridges to travel through difficult terrain. Some of the materials used to build these bridges are not very strong so we decided to see if we could use one sheet of paper to make a bridge. We tried different folds to see if we could make the bridge stronger and tested them to see how many pennies they could hold. Check out our pictures to see some of the stronger bridges. The accordion fold bridge held 242 pennies!

Bake Club
Dear Parents and Students,
Bake Club is offered to students for fourth grade and up.
We meet on Tuesdays from 3:00 - 4:30pm. Most times in the Family Center Kitchen and sometimes in the Fine Arts Building.
Some of the items that I teach are bread, pastry, cookies and macarons. The goal is to teach confidence in the kitchen and to be able to know the “why” of what does and does not work in the kitchen and not just reading a recipe.
Baking is an exact science. The students become very good at fractions and scaling ingredients using metric conversion. They also use the imperial system of spoons and cups etc.
We will have a bake sale during the year and also host our very own High Tea in which the parents will be invited. The profit from the bake sale will go towards ingredients and materials for baking.
I, Lisa Sweeney, will be the instructor. I also have two assistants, Eileen Lacombe and Terrie Grieco. I can always use more help, so if you are interested, please see me.
I have my certificate from pastry school which I completed in May 2018. I presently work under Chef Phillipe Feret and Hugo Vidal at the Hilton Head Social Bakery. You can usually find me there on Saturdays!
Any questions, please email me, lsweeney@sfcshhi.com
Please provide your child with an apron, headband to keep hair away from face, and a set of measuring spoons and cups. Please no plastic. They don’t last and the markings rub off.
The cost will be $5.00 per club.
Attached is a form to fill out and return to the school office.
Sincerely,
Lisa Sweeney

Flu Vaccination Clinic
Dear Parents/Guardians:
This year we will be partnering once again with SC DHEC to offer a Flu Vaccination Clinic to our students.
There is no cost to you if you wish for your child to receive this vaccination at school. I have attached the forms from DHEC to register your child for this clinic.
They have not given me a date yet for the clinic at St. Francis. As soon as I know the date I will send out another e-mail.
They are asking for people to register online by Friday, October 11th so they can schedule the clinics.
This is not mandatory and is only being offered as a convenience. SC DHEC is trying to get as many children vaccinated as possible to protect them from the flu this year.
Thank you,
Melissa L Markey, RN, BSN
