Grand Forks Central High School Weekly Communication

Keeping you updated and informed for the week of May 18, 2020

This mini-version of our monthly newsletter - The Knight News - will serve as a weekly communication to GFC families as students work remotely during the 2019-20 school year.

GFC Graduation - Full Details Next Week

Grand Forks Central High School graduation will be held on May 31 at 12 noon. As many of you may have heard, students and families will arrive by car at staggered times to drive up to the front of Central where students will exit the car and cross a stage in their cap and gown to receive their diplomas. There will be a brief opportunity to take a picture/video of graduates receiving their diplomas. However, the event will be livestreamed and recorded for all to see. There is a great deal of planning involved in this event. We will share full details next week. Our ceremony will follow the guidance of the Center for Disease Control and the North Dakota Department of Health and Grand Forks Public Health.

Teacher: Mr. Sean Allan

Congratulations to the GFC InSPIRESS team for winning their division in the InSPIRESS spring semester competition! InSPIRESS teams compete for selection by the undergraduate engineering teams at the University of Alabama Huntsville. Five division winners were selected from schools across the nation. Our team will now have the opportunity to present their winning project to the NASA/DoD board virtually followed by a Q&A session.

InSPIRESS (Innovative System Project for the Increased Recruitment of Emerging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Students) provides the opportunity for high school students to develop and design a scientific payload to be accommodated on a spacecraft which is designed by undergraduate students in the UAH IPT project. High school students collaborate with the undergraduate engineering students to understand the engineering requirements, the design process, and the role a customer plays in design.

Verbs of the 4th Quarter

Increasing the vocabulary of our students is a goal of the staff at GFC. A larger vocabulary leads to greater success in school and beyond. Verbs give us the tools needed to unlock knowledge and communicate that knowledge effectively. We appreciate families supporting this effort!
  • Explain - to make known or understandable; The video explains the proper way to wash your hands.

  • Justify - to prove to be just, right, or reasonable; During the trial, it was hard for Joe to justify his behavior.
  • Claim - to state that something is true; He claims that his treatment of tigers was ethical.

GFC Online Learning Manual

Please use the GFC Online Learning Manual as a reference tool for students and families the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.
