What a difference a week makes... Coming off one of our poorer performances of the season at league, the team was much better today. Our time gaps that were bad last week were the best they have been all season today, and we needed every bit of it. A year ago at regionals, we tied for 3rd/4th but were on the wrong side of the tie-breaker. This year, we found ourselves on the right side of that tie-breaker. We knew it was going to be very close for 2nd-4th place and last week losing to Piper had me a little worried. However, I knew if we ran to our potential we are much better than last week showed. Sophomore Cody Loganbill led the way again for the team today and was our only medal winner in the top 10. Cody ran most of the race in 5th but in the last 800m moved to 4th place -something that ended up being needed for the team. Another great finish went our way when freshman Conor Dunback raced the last 400m with a Piper senior on his hip the entire way and Conor was able to hold on. Senior Hayden Miller continues to run faster week after week and today it was his finish as our 6th runner ahead of Piper’s 6th runner and that is how we won the tie breaker. Up and down the team we had a lot of small, personal races develop throughout the race that went our way and honestly every boy can say they contributed to this team qualifying for the state meet. For our
boys cross country program, it has been over 20 years since we qualified as a team for the state meet.

Comments:
The girl’s team got us started today by picking up the regional win for the second year in a row. Thegirls have now won the last six meets including today. We were able to top Baldwin for the second week in a row, however the gap was a little bit closer today than last week at league. However, we didn’t taper much this week of training. Also, Baldwin was a little fired up after unexpectedly getting beat last week and they were racing on their home course. We expected them to give us a great challenge today and they did not disappoint. Despite not having many season best times, we really did run good times today. Riley Hiebert ran 20 seconds closer today to the Piper girl that won league last week and regionals today. Our time gaps from Reagan to many of the rest of the girls was better today than it was last week when we ran great at the league meet. Freshman Phoebe Fletcher continues her great first season running cross country by finishing 10th and earning a regional medal with a personal best time as well.
Our girls team returns to the state meet again this year and will look to improve upon last year’s runner-up performance.
Up Next...
The boys and girls will race next weekend at the state meet in Wamego at the Wamego country club. The boys will race at 10:35am and the girls will race at 12:20pm. Information about the state meet can be found at the link: http://www.kshsaa.org/Public/CrossCountry/State.cfm.
Varsity Volleyball - Coach Cleveland
Last Saturday was a major day of volleyball across the state of Kansas! Eight 4A Sub-State tournament sites were identified and The Lady Cardinals placed 3rd in their region for an opportunity to host! The Cardinals were seated #1 in their bracket and would play #4 Paola first round. Starting the match was a serve from sophomore Harper Schreiner to the panther’s serve receive. The panther’s were able to pass a ball in-system and attack back that resulted in an unfortunate digging error. The Cardinals bounced back quickly after two short rallies. Senior Delaney Franklin served a tough ball at the Panthers, that resulted in them sending over a simple free ball back to the Cardinals. With a sweet pass to our sophomore setter Emma Durr, she set a shoot to our outside hitter, senior Keagan Shockley that resulted in a bomb down the line. The Cardinals steam rolled ahead through the rest of the match with great defense from junior Jayla Pierce at the net and Harper Schreiner in the backcourt. On the offensive side of the ball, Delaney Franklin kept our offense rolling with her stellar serve receive passing. Senior Mara Oleson finished the match with long serving runs and four aces. Onto the Championship match! I want to give a big shout out to Delaney Franklin. Delaney earned her 800th career dig during the match!
After waiting a three set match between Chanute and Tonganoxie, the girls ended up facing Chanute in the Championship. First point of the match came from Harper Schreiner’s service ace. This was the spark the Cardinals needed to get the ball rolling. Throughout the set several points were exchanged between both teams. Chanute tried really hard to keep our team out of system. Several balls were tipped to our setter Emma Durr which resulted in Delaney Franklin taking a lot of second balls for us. That was not a problem for a libero with a lot of experience being put in that position. Not only does she pass well, she is great at tabletop setting! The Cards take the first set 26-24. The second set of the match was dominated by the Cardinals. The Cardinals played great defense that included, awesome dig’s from Mia Manley and Delaney Franklin. Along with stellar blocking from our middles Jayla Pierce and sophomore Sophia Ewy. Even sophomore Sadie Walker stepped in for us in the front row and made big contributions at the right time! The Cardinals dominated the second set 25-14. The Cardinals won their home Sub-State Championship. We will compete on Friday in Hutchinson at the State Tournament. Our first match is at 3:30pm vs Towanda-Circle, then 6:30pm vs Independence, and 7:30pm vs Topeka-Hayden. We hope to see you there.

The Eudora football team played the Tigers of Fort Scott on Friday in the last regular season game of the year. It was a special night because it was senior night and this group of seniors has been so amazing to coach. Not only are they great athletes and teammates, but they are great people as well. There has not been one time this season where these kids have ever hung their heads or given up. This has been my favorite year of coaching by far, and it has everything to do with this senior class. It was very special to the coaching staff and the underclassmen for these guys to get a win on senior night.
The offensive line, led by seniors Chris Huslig, Brett Neis, Kaden Hartwell, and senior tight ends Jake Boucher and Sloan Hayden were excellent all night. These kids were challenged at the beginning of the week by Coach Tharp to have a great game, and they did not disappoint. The offense had 339 total yards (217 rushing, 122 passing) and it was because of the effort and execution of the front seven. The Fort Scott defensive front was impressive, and played better than they had shown on film. This was a very physical game, won by the big guys up front. Junior Zeke Reazin had a good game at QB rushing for 98 yards and a score, while passing for 122 yards and a score. Junior Cael Lynch rushed for 47 yards and was a great team player when asked to move to fullback when sophomore Brayden Beerbower went down with an injury. Freshman Octavius Lyles added 67 yards and a score as well. Jake Boucher had two receptions for 39 yards, including one big time reception that got the Cardinals out of trouble on 3rd down. Sophomore Silas Etter added two receptions for 39 yards, while Octavius Lyles and junior Matt Evans each had a reception. Sloan Hayden got his first touchdown reception of the year, a 19 yard TD pass. Sloan has been unselfish all year and has never complained, even though his stats have gone down from last year. He has been a team player and does everything the coaching staff asks of him, even if this means acting as a decoy. He has also become a very good blocker for the Cardinals. For this, Sloan was given offensive player of the week. The Eudora offense has scored 135 points so far this season and only need 13 more points to double last year’s point total.
The defense played well all night, besides one 78 yard touchdown run that went for a TD. The Cardinals only allowed six points, as the other Fort Scott score came after a pick six. The Cardinal defense is currently allowing 22.6 points per game after allowing 31 points per game last season. The senior defensive linemen consisting of Brett Neis, Caleb Reazin, Chris Huslig, Matt Reding, Sloan Hayden, and Kaden Hartwell were great all night, coming up big when it mattered most. Senior linebackers Jake Boucher and Adam Monroe also did a very good job. The defensive player of the game though goes to Noah Watkins, who once again had a huge interception at the right moment in the game. Noah has a knack for finding the football when it matters the most and giving his team a spark of energy.
The Cardinals will travel to Bonner Springs next Friday for their first round playoff matchup. The Cardinals lost a close battle 20-28 earlier in the season.

Last Thursday night was Senior Night for the EHS soccer team, and it was a good night as we won 3-2 over a gritty Tonganoxie club. This makes four straight years that we have won on Senior Night!
We came out a little rusty and it looked like we hadn't played in a week. After about eight minutes we finally got going and really turned up the pressure, which in turn created turnovers and opportunities on goal. Junior Alex Kooken put us on the board first when a ball came down and he used his body to shield two guys. He was then able to split them and hit a right footed shot into the left side of the net. Junior Dylan Meier would get goal number two off a set piece. We got a call right at the top of the 18 and Dylan hammered a shot just under the crossbar. The keeper could not get his hands there in time. Tongie got one back a few minutes later off a set piece that we allowed to get to the back post and we didn't clear it. At the half we were frustrated because we felt we should have been up more. Tongie tied it up 2-2 on a PK kick. I didn't agree with what he saw but he is the ref and I can disagree all I want. Rarely do they change the call.
We took back the lead about midway through the half. Junior Jace McCormick took the ball to the inside and junior Jack Kleineweber overlapped. Jace drew a defender with the dribble that opened up Jack. Jace hit a reverse pass to Jack and Jack hit the post, but Dylan was following in and buried a shot into the net. We may have given up two goals but our defense was good all night as well as our middle. We just don't put teams away when we should. The score makes the game look closer than really was.
Next up is the playoffs which we will start Tuesday at home at 6:00p and more than likely playing Columbus.
