Quotes and Analysis
Quote: “Tessie Hutchinson was in the center of a cleared space by now, and she held her hands out desperately as the villagers moved in on her. "It isn't fair," she said. A stone hit her on the side of the head. Old Man Warner was saying, "Come on, come on, everyone." Steve Adams was in the front of the crowd of villagers, with Mrs. Graves beside him”(Jackson 7).
Analysis: this connects because Mrs.H was stoned to death because of the law. The government in this story had to make sure the population didn’t get out of hand. The government had too much power because they basically get to pick who dies. Jackson discuses if they were picked they had to be killed and there were no exceptions.
Quotes and Analysis
Quote:” It was then that Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, came into the studio with a double-barreled ten-gauge shotgun, she fired twice, and the Emperor and the Empress were dead before they hit the floor”( Vonnegut 5).
Analysis: Harrison was killed because he was different and the government made him hide his differences. It was the law to hide our your body and face and if they didn’t the government killed them like in lottery it was a law to keep the town’s population down so they killed them because it was the law. Vonnegut discusses that if it was against the law to be different or to stand out.
In this book the community has to gather every year and participate in the "Lottery". The government like people pick one name and if your name is picked you have to be stoned to death.
In this book it takes place in 2081 where everyone is crated equal. What I mean by this is if you were above average you had handicaps put on you so you wouldn't stand out. Harrison was very tall and good looking so they had to put extra handicaps on him so he wouldn't stand out. He soon got sick of it and rebelled against the government he was killed because of it.
