Peterson's News
10/9-10/13
What an incredible turnout we had for our Walk, Bike, or Roll event on Wednesday!!! I had hoped that we would have at least 150 students participate. Well, we doubled my hopeful prediction - we had 307 students participate!!!! There was even a visit from Peter Panther! I know that the students enjoyed having music outside for recess on Thursday and I really appreciate everyone's participation and efforts to make this event successful!!
Thank you so much to all of the families who follow our arrival and dismissal procedures!! I appreciate you following the rules just as we ask our students to do. Keeping our students safe is a priority and one that I take very seriously. To our parents who are dropping off and/or picking up off of Honey Locust, I ask that you please stop. There have been quite a few close calls and saving the 5-10 minutes is simply not worth putting students' lives in danger. If you see something unsafe, I would ask that you use the Naperville Police Department's online reporting system. The link is below. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Best,
Alli Landstrom

i-Ready Family Reports
This fall, Indian Prairie School District 204 administered the i-Ready assessments to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. These Illinois Learning Standards aligned assessments provide comprehensive insight into student learning across multiple domains for both reading and mathematics. The purpose of these assessments is to evaluate student academic growth toward end of year expectations. These assessment results are used by teachers and administrators to assist with instructional planning and differentiation at the grade, classroom and student level.
Depending on grade level, reading measures assess phonological awareness, phonics, high frequency words, vocabulary, comprehension of literature and comprehension of informational text; and mathematics measures assess number and operations, algebra/algebraic thinking, measurement/data, and geometry. These areas of performance are summarized in an overall reading and mathematics score.
Your child’s score reports will be available within ParentVUE starting on Friday, October 13, 2023. To access the reports, click on the “Documents” section in ParentVUE then look for iReady Score Report. Information concerning the interpretation of your child’s individual report may be accessed at:

Previous Information
Supporting Social Emotional Learning
Teachers will teach the first lesson of our Second Step Curriculum this week. The Second Step curriculum teaches students the Social Emotional Learning standards in a developmentally appropriate way. Please see the following link for more information: https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Social-Emotional-Learning-Standards.aspx. The curriculum aligns with our Panther Pledges of Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Here is the link if you’re interested in more information: https://www.secondstep.org/second-step-social-emotional-learning
Each month has a theme. The themes are Setting the Stage, Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotion Management, Problem Solving, and Friendship Skills. For the first four weeks, we have been Setting the Stage by reviewing our Panther Pledges of Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Beginning on Monday, our school-wide theme is Skills for Learning: listening, focusing attention, using self-talk to stay on-task, and being assertive when asking for help with a learning task. In our morning announcements, we’ll be reminding students of these skills, which help students be successful learners. Second Step lessons teach skills for learning. You’ll be receiving a Home Link this week describing why these skills are important and including fun activities to do with your child to practice them. We hope you enjoy them! The Home Links do not need to be returned unless directed by the teacher.
- In Kindergarten - Third grade, Home Links are sent home based upon the content, so a Home Link will not come home every week in these grade levels.
- In Fourth and Fifth grade, a Home Link will be sent home every week on Monday.
We will be posting the links for all grade levels on our website in the next couple weeks. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me or your child's teacher.
Notes from our Nurse
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the district practices that are in place to maximize the health of our students and staff.
- If your child is running a fever of one hundred (100) degrees or greater (or 37.8 degrees Celsius or higher), please keep your child at home until the temperature has been less than one hundred (100) degrees( 37.8 C) for twenty four (24) hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications.
- If your child is experiencing vomiting or diarrhea, please keep your child at home until these concerns have been resolved for twenty four (24) hours, and your child is tolerating food.
- If your child has been prescribed medication for an illness, please keep your child home until it has been over 24 hours since the medication has been started.
- Colds and respiratory viruses are common during the school year. If your child is coughing continuously or has green-colored nasal secretions, you may wish to consult with your medical provider and follow his/her directions.
- If your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness such as Covid 19, strep throat, measles, chicken pox, or pertussis, please notify the school as soon as possible.
- As a reminder, frequent hand washing with soap and water is the primary way to prevent the spread of illness.
