Hammerschmidt Highlights:

In the sections below you will find some of the activities, actions and strategies centered around our 5 School Improvement Areas:

  • Student Leadership
  • Student Voice & Collaborative Decision Making
  • Student, Staff and Family Engagement
  • Student Growth and Goals
  • Star Constellations

Student Voice and Collaborative Decision Making

This staff team has designed and rolled out a "Student Star Showcase". Students will be invited to showcase an item of their choosing. Each month a different grade level will be featured. The display case has been repurposed and is now spotlighting our "Rising and Shining" 5th Graders!
The committee met with student representatives to get their ideas on how to celebrate our rising and shining students! They helped our WHS staff with the process for rotating months and brainstormed the type of items that could be brought in.
This staff team will also be help helping to organize a Principal Advisory Council. Each grade level will have an opportunity to offer feedback about how to improve the school!

Student Leadership

This staff team has developed a process to sponsor student suggested clubs each trimester!

The Student Leadership Team has also been working on producing videos featuring students modeling the WHS behavior expectations for each of the areas throughout the building!

The WHS student produced "Starcast" is also being produced with the support of this staff team. Look for the first episode soon!

Student Growth and Goals

This staff team has been developing ways to engage students in goal setting related to academic and social emotional data points.

To help students understand their scores from recent academic and SEL screening and set goals for future assessments, the committee has created resources for teacher and student use in the classroom. The idea is for students to be a part of the goal setting process. When the students see their score, they can help determine a plan that is best for them, and see their scores grow over the course of the year!

Student, Staff, and Family Engagement

This staff team has been planning events and engagement opportunities for our school community. In addition to planning community service type events, they are helping to organize Veteran's Day assembly, installed the "WHS Little Library", and continue to explore ways to connect our school with the greater community!

Star Constellations

First, all our students watched this video to learn what "Star Constellations" is all about. Click on video below if you want to learn more!

Star Constellations Program Launch 9 20 21
This staff team launched our first meeting for the year. All students were broken up into their assigned groups outside under the tents. From there we participated in some "Getting to Know You" activities, came up with a team name, took a group selfie, and even designed our own "Star constellations. These blue posters are displayed on the doors of each Star Constellation Group Leader!

We are busy planning our next lesson which will take place on our next Early Release Day, November 2nd!

WHS Student Council

The Grade 5 Student Council Executive Board Elections were held on Sept. 29th. We had many candidates for each of the four cabinet positions. Congratulations to our winning candidates:

This year’s Treasurer is Emily Reichert.

This year’s Secretary is Ryan Johnson.

This year’s Vice President is Maria Puckett.

And this year’s Student Council President is Caleb Knight.

Each classroom has elected two representatives to attend and participate in Student Council Meetings this year. Grade 5 Executive Board members will also be facilitating separate student council meetings for grades 1 and 2 throughout the year!. Kindergarten will be included after winter break!

SAFETY REMINDER

Big picture
At the back of the school, please do not drop off students between the two signs. This area is reserved EXCLUSIVELY for student crossing at the crosswalk. Cars that drop off students here block the view for students, crossing guards, and jeopardize the safety of our kids! Thank you for your support with this request!

Please, no pick-up or dropping off of students in the Staff Parking Lot.
