Our Path Note Topic
PLEASE FILL OUT BOTH SURVEYS--THE DISTRICT'S AND THE IU'S.
Over the last week or so, there has been much talk about the FDA and PA DoH assigning the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine for educators. It has been approved.
The vaccine has been recently approved by the FDA. Although you will hear it is 85% percent effective, and not 90 or 95, experts insist that you just need to take one of them. Medical experts usually will remind us that we don't ask which flu vaccine is being used, and they equate the situation to the COVID vaccine. They also tell us that it means it is 85% effective preventing the most serious of effects of the virus. It is a one-shot vaccine.
PA DoH has prioritized the J & J vaccine for educators and support personnel in schools. WASD will provide two opportunities for the vaccine.
1. LIU--The state has sent the vaccines to IUs to provide vaccinations to schools. WASD's day will occur sometime during the days of March 10-13. We do not know which day, yet.
The IU will forward a state survey to WASD, and we will send the survey to you. Please fill it out whether you received a vaccination or not. If you would be interested in going to the IU (New Oxford) for the vaccination, please make sure you fill out the survey from the IU. You will be given a link to be able to schedule a time. We are exploring transportation options.
2. Keystone Health--The state did not allow health care organizations to receive the J & J vaccine, yet. Therefore, Keystone can only provide the Moderna (two shots). We are working on a plan for them to come here to WASD. However, we do not know when or how much vaccine will be available. We will provide more information when we receive it.
If you want the vaccine, our recommendation is to sign up for whatever you can get.
