MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Respectful Relationships
There is tremendous power in little acts of goodness and service. I am privileged to witness that power every day in the way that parents interact with their children, the way that parents choose to interact with the staff, the way that staff interact with the students and most importantly, the way that our students interact with each other. Thank you to all in our community who genuinely make a difference each day!
Father's Day
This is a special day for us to acknowledge the contribution of all fathers, to individual families and to societies at large. It also provides our children with an opportunity to express their love and respect for their fathers. Children depend on their fathers for spiritual, emotional, physical, financial and social well-being. For a daughter, her father is the ideal man and also the first man she adores, while for a son, his father is an idol and the strongest man he aspires to emulate.
I hope you all enjoy your celebrations of Father’s Day this weekend and I wish all of our fathers, grandfathers, uncles and father-figures a very Happy Father’s Day!
Kindergarten
Just a friendly reminder, 3 Year Old Kindy places for 2022 is filling really fast. Please make sure you have completed an enrolment form for 3 Year Old Kindy and returned this to the office ASAP. Our 60, 4 Year Old Kindy places for 2022 are now full with a waitlist of 21 families wanting to enrol at St Luke’s.
A reminder to families who have their child currently in 4 Year Old Kindy that the bubble classes will continue for Pre Primary next year and then Year One onwards. A new classroom for Year 1 and then Year 2 will commence next year to accommodate the three classes for the start of 2023. The new Principal, once announced, will also honour this arrangement.
God Moments
- Seeing wonderful parents giving up their own time to prepare lunches from the Kangaroo Café for the many children and staff in our school. Bravo, ladies!
- Listening to the children and teachers greet me with the Noongar word for Good Morning, ‘Wandjoo’ as I visit their classroom throughout each day.

Should you need to refer to St Luke’s Catholic Primary School procedures (including Uniform & Grooming, Attendance, and Code of Conduct), you’ll now find them on our school website.

AUSLAN
This week in Auslan the Kindy’s to Year 2’s have been learning to sign “Happy Father's Day” and sign the “Hello” song. The Year 3’s to 6’s have been creating a movie to talk about their Dads using Auslan. They have been having lots of fun signing as well as including some Dad dances and Dad jokes. Parents can check out the videos on SeeSaw this weekend.

NIPPSSA Carnival
St Luke's participated in the annual NIPSSA carnival on Friday August 27th. The Year 5 and 6 students played at 3 venues in Basketball, Badminton and Rugby. I was amazed at the improvement shown by all the Rugby players, many who were playing for the first time. Our 3 teams performed very well, two teams playing off in finals with one loss and a draw.
The basketball teams were fantastic! Girls and boys, and the staff were very pleased with their attitude and fairness all day. The first group to play badminton for St Luke's had mixed results but impressed Mr Miller with their attempts to improve all day.
Special thanks to all the parents and staff who helped teams on the day, the children's experience was so much better because of your input.

Sustainability
Share Waste – at St Luke’s we are very fortunate to have the worm farms, chickens and compost bins to divert all of our organic waste from landfill. You may have noticed how much of your landfill bin or FOGO bin at home if filled by organic waste. A great site to check out is https://sharewaste.com/. Here you can connect to others living close by and keep organic waste out of your bins if you don’t have chickens/worm farms/compost bins.
Organic Waste – if you have any kitchen scraps (fruit & vegetables) or coffee grounds (no bread/muffins/cakes please) then how about wrapping them up in newspaper and dropping them off outside the Science Room every Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday. There will be a big green bin there waiting for your donations. We are happy to take them from you and turn them into compost that we can use on our garden beds.
Plastic Lids – roughly 20kg of plastic lids were taken off site and recycled this week. Thank you so much for the donations. Please keep them coming.
