A Peek at our Week
Writing:This week, writers finished up their work with How To writing. They worked hard to make sure their books had everything a how to book should have. Next week, we will choosing our best two How To books to edit and revise. Students will then have a chance to share those books with their classmates to celebrate their hard work! After Winter break, we will begin our next writing unit...All About books.
Math: This week, we continued to work with subtracting 8 and 9 from teen numbers. The students have learned 3 different strategies to help them subtract. The "take from 10" picture strategy, the "take from 10" number bond strategy, and the "counting on" strategy. These strategies are tricky but we are catching on!
Word Study: This week, we continued our work with blends, focusing on s-blends (sl, sc, st, sk, sm, sn, sp). Students are getting really good at chopping the sounds in short vowel words that begin with a blend (crash, blush, slip, spot, drop, etc.) We will continue next week with a review of all blends.
Chapstick!

Expected Behavior at GP
Now that we are in the 2nd quarter and students are very familiar with the choices they are expected to make at school, this is a great time to check in with your student to see how things are going! Here are the expectations students are reminded of each day:
Keep hands and feet to self.
Maintain a safe body.
Use kind words.
Sit in a way that respects the space of those around you.
Follow directions right away and do your job.
Keep voice at the expected level (silent when a teacher is teaching or giving directions)
I kindly ask that you remind your child about these expectations and encourage them to make good choices throughout the day. Together, we can help our students learn and grow in a safe and positive environment. Thank you!
