We value your input, so thank you in advance for participating in the survey. We are also thankful for the ongoing support for our Outdoor Classroom. Our next clean-up workday will be in late spring. Stay tuned for more information. Thank you.

From the Library
February is African American History Month. Sunset Park’s school library has a diverse collection of books and resources for our school family to explore and commemorate the notable contributions African Americans have made to our country’s rich history.
Discovery Education has a dedicated Black History Channel, which includes videos, podcasts, images and audio books.
Our DISCUS Database offers a number of resources- Tumblebooks, is Celebrating the Black Identity with some ebooks, storybooks, chapter books, read alongs, songs and videos. Pebble Go Next+Biographies has some interesting and informative biographies. Gale in Context – has articles, images and reference information about actors, artists, athletes, historic figures, musicians, and scientist & inventors.
Finally, students are always encouraged to ask the librarian for suggestions/recommendations, helpful websites or browse the DESTINY online catalog.

Guidance
Your child will be participating in an abuse prevention curriculum during classroom guidance over the next few weeks. If you have any questions about the curriculum, please feel free to contact me.
Additionally, we have a few jackets, coats, gloves and hats available; if your child could benefit from these services, let me know. Similarly, if you feel your child has a need for individual and/or group counseling services; please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I can be reached on my office phone at (803) 981- 1272.
Likewise, my guidance referral form can be located on our school’s website, under the families tab. As always, please know that I am available should you wish to speak with me regarding your child’s needs at Sunset Park. Have a Fabulous February!

Physical Education
January/February are months in which we focus on participating in vigorous activities focusing on cardiovascular and muscular fitness. All grade levels are actively participating in games promoting vigorous movement, working together, fair play, and sportsmanship. During the cold stretch of 2022, students will be introduced to the sports/events of the winter Olympics. Nutrition and diet will be topics that we will lean heavily on, making students aware of the importance of healthy eating along with being physically active.
As a reminder, The American Heart Association recommends that healthy children, stay active throughout the day. Kids age and older should get at least an hour of moderate to vigorous activity every day. This will help them maintain a healthy weight and keep their hearts, brains and bodies healthy.
Just a few suggestions to get the family out and active in our Rock Hill area:
- Take advantage of our Rock Hill Parks & Recreation opportunities by visiting one of our wonderful outdoor parks such as the recently opened Miracle Park
- Take the family for a bowling outing at Strikers
- Get your bounce on at Adventure Air
- Play disc golf at one of our many Innova Disc Golf courses, including the one at Sunset Park
- Participate in a league at the Rock Hill Sports and Events facility
