Trela Weesner
Librarian, Media Specialist, Collaborative Leader, and more.
Mrs. Weesner is an important asset to education and is based out of Briarhill Middle School
Campus-District-State-Worldwide Collaboration
When Trela was spotlighted by Lewisville Independent School District, she was interview and gave the following quote. "My favorite thing about being a part of LISD is that I am not only allowed, but I'm encouraged to take risks to create innovative programs that engage students." This is a quote that she lives by and when observed on her campus you will see her involved in creating lessons with every content on the campus. She supports Social Studies, Math, Science, English, and all electives with ideas to help engage students. Her approachability is a big reason she has teachers in her office from all content areas. She is a great think partner. To see more from the district spotlight, click here.
Campus Leader
Trela has been an educational leader on her campus at Briarhill Middle School. She is heavily involved in knowing what the teachers and students are in need of. Trela helps plan professional development for her campus and helps with lesson creation across all contents.
Teacher
Trela works alongside teachers from all content areas and team teaches with them. She is also instrumental in getting campus programs to all students in all the grade levels.
Librarian/Media Specialist
It is a challenge to be on top of current educational strategies and technology programs, but Trela is the go to person for brainstorming these ideas.
District Collaboration
Elementary School Visit
Trela will go to the elementary schools to connect with the students that will be coming to her middle school. She creates those relationships early to help students make the transition.
Middle School and High School
Just an example of another way Trela supports other at other schools in our district. Trela is well versed in video conferencing, and in this picture is lesson planning with district teachers at a middle school and high school on how they can work together.
District Project
A cross curricular project that Trela started at her school that has spread to another district middle school and high school. Click here to see a district press release.
State Collaboration
Conference at the Texas Library Association
Trela regularly attends the Texas Library Association Conference and collaborates with other Librarians/Media Specialists around the state.
Texas Computer Education Association
As she quoted earlier, Trela is always looking to innovate and engage students. At the TCEA conference 2015, she worked with teachers across the state and came back to her home district with many ideas that she shared through campus and district professional development.
Presenter at the Texas Computer Education Association
In 2016 Trela went back to the TCEA conference as a presenter to share her ideas on a worldwide collaborative project.
Worldwide Collaboration
Bringing in guest speakers, physically and virtually!
In this picture Trela invited students to video conference with author Jan Gansei author of Zero Day.
Briarhill 24HR World Tour
In the Briarhill library Trela coordinated a virtual world tour. With the help of a teacher team, students were invited to spend 24 hours in the Briarhill library and go on a trip around the world. Students video conferenced with students, teachers, scientists, museums, political figures, and friends from all over the world. This project has been done for the last two years and have reached over 31 countries. To see more about this project click here.
Worldwide Collaboration to outside of this World!!!!!!!
In this picture we have students in the Briarhill library visiting with the Johnson Space Center. Trela is currently waiting for acceptance from NASA on a proposal she led to connect her school to the International Space Station. To complete the proposal, Trela worked with all content areas and school leaders on how to best prepare the students and school for such a wonderful opportunity. Trela is the project manager of this unique educational experience. I have a good feeling that Trela's library will be talking with Astronauts aboard the ISS next school year.
Dallas/Fort Worth NBC 5
Here is a press release from a local news station about the worldwide collaboration project. Trela will not be in this video because of some slight camera shyness, but this is her library and the project that she has helped build, and spread throughout the district.
