A Peek at Our Week
December 11, 2017
MATH:
2.1 - This week students will review how to estimate and measure the length of objects in both customary (inches and feet) and metric (centimeters and meters). Students will also review how to compare various lengths and solve problems that involve addition and subtraction. The post assessment will be given on Thursday & Friday. Keep practicing addition and subtraction facts at home!
2.2 - Students will be taking their unit 6 assessment on Thursday (and Friday if necessary) after some review stations at the beginning of the week. For 2 days we will review telling time and then I'm going to let the students decide what they would like to study on the last 2 days. Remember to have students studying their subtraction facts daily and working on RedBird.
3.1 - This week students will explore the relationship between multiplication and division. Students will learn to use the Distributive Property to multiply a sum by multiplying each addend separately and then add the products. Click here to see a quick overview of the Distributive Property. Click here to see a more detailed explanation with arrays.
Keep practicing addition and subtraction facts!
READING:
This week students will continue to explore different characters in realistic fiction stories! We will study a variety of characters and examine their motivations, reactions, and responses to problems and events in the texts.
WRITING:
Students will continue to generate and write realistic fiction stories featuring a central character. They will introduce their character in 'Book One' and develop subsequent texts as they write their character in and out of precarious problems!
SCIENCE:
We are continuing our science unit this week. Students will discover that even though the sun appears to be the largest, brightest star, it is actually medium in size and brightness. They will develop an understanding of the patterns of the sun and the moon and the sun's effect on earth. They will also plan and carry out an investigation to determine the effect of the position of the sun in relation to a fixed object on earth at various times of the day.
