Queen of Apostles School

Term 3 Week 9 - Thursday 15 September 2022

Prayer for First Holy Communion

Lord Jesus Christ,

Bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time.

May this day be the step toward a life-long love of the Eucharist.

Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship.

Thank you for their innocence and goodness.

May their hands, extended in anticipation of your body and blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred Sacrament.

A reminder that Thursday 22nd September has been declared a National Day of Mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth, and will be a Public Holiday this year.

Following this, Friday 23rd September is a Pupil Free Day at Queen of Apostles, so families will have an extra long weekend to start the Term 3 holidays.

Please note that Term 3 will finish on Wednesday 21st September. There will be no staff at school on Thursday or Friday.

Term 4 will commence on Monday 10th October.

Pre-Primary Assembly

I am really looking forward to watching our Pre-Primary class perform their assembly item in the hall tomorrow morning. Please remember we now start our assembly items at 8.50am.

I know there will be lot of family members there to support our Pre-Primaries. It promises to be lots of fun!

First Eucharist

This Sunday (September 18), we will come together, to support our Year 4 students as they receive Holy Communion for the very first time, becoming one with Christ and deepening their relationship with the Lord through this Sacrament.

A big thank you to Mrs Joiner for all her work in preparing the children to receive this Sacrament.

I ask that you pray for our First Holy Communicants over the coming days.

Over the next couple of weeks, we have the following athletics events planned for our students.

Tomorrow, Friday 16th September 9.30am = Yr. 3 to 6 Jumps & Throws on Annexe Oval

Next Tuesday 20th September = Yr. 1 to 6 Athletics Carnival at Ern Clarke Oval in Cannington

I thank Mr Bridgeman for all his hard work in preparing for these wonderful days that the students really enjoy.

I hope the weather is kind.

P&F Sundowner

What a fantastic turn out we had at the P&F Sundowner last Friday evening. The new grass area was full of families enjoying each other’s company and having a good time.

The magician, giant games and ice cream van were a great hit and enjoyed by many.

I thank our wonderful P&F for organising this for our community.

COVID Portal

It is still vitally important that parents and caregivers inform the school if their child tests positive for COVID-19.

Parents and caregivers can inform the school of their child’s positive or negative COVID result via this LINK - https://cewa-collections.powerappsportals.com/COVID-19-Self-Reporting-Form/

The information will go directly to me.

If a positive result is recorded via a RAT test it must also be registered on the WA Health RAT register website -

Please do not underestimate the importance of informing us of a positive COVID case. Your actions will ensure the risk to others is minimised and that we do our very best to limit the spread of the virus across our community.

Best Wishes

PrePrimary and Year 2 Excursion

On Monday, the Pre-Primary and Year 2 classes visited the Canning River Eco Education Centre (CREEC).

It was a very exciting excursion with lots of hands-on activities which supported students’ learning in class about caring for the environment, sustainability and conservation. The students got to discover which creepy crawlies lived in the river, investigate how rubbish impacts wildlife, go on a bird watching walk and find out about protecting frogs.

Thank you to Mrs Radice, Mrs Lumsden and all the parent helpers who assisted on the day.

Interview with Cherie

Two students from each year from Years 4-6 were chosen to represent Queen of Apostles at the recent Inter-school Spelling Bee at Corpus Christi College. Schools involved were Orana, St Benedict's, St Columba’s, Aquinas, St Pius, St Augustine and Corpus Christi.

We interviewed Cherie from Year 6. Cherie came 4th out of 16 students. The word Cherie got out on was 'conjunctivitis'. Cherie was nervous because she was in front of an audience and was representing the school. She enjoyed going because it was exciting and she got experience. Congratulations to all the students involved.

Information from the School Nurse

Colour Blindness

Children who are colour blind can see as clearly as other people but can’t tell the difference between some colours or see colours differently from other people. Very few people who are colour blind are ‘blind’ to all colours – most often they see red and green as very similar.

It’s good to know if a child is colour blind because they may have difficulty at school with activities that use colours, such as drawing and sorting blocks, and with computers. Please read through information on colour blindness provided by Raising Children Network. Colour blindness: babies, children & teens | Raising Children Network

If you have any concerns, colour vision testing can be performed by some General Practitioners (GP), eye specialists or optometrist. You can also contact your local Community Health Nurse on 9258 8053.

Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine. It can be detected by a simple examination of the back.

The normal spine has three curves – one in the neck, on in the upper back and one in the lower back. These curves can be seen from the side, but when you look from behind the spine should appear straight. If the spine has a sideways curve, this is scoliosis.

Please read through the scoliosis information provided by Raising Children Network and check your child for scoliosis as described.

If you have any concerns, please contact your General Practitioner or Community Health Nurse, Shabnam Shahramian on 92588053.
