SLE WEEKLY UPDATE
September 15, 2023
Dear East Families,
As we finish up the second week of school, it is hard to believe all of the amazing things we have done in a very short time. It was wonderful to see many of our families at Curriculum Night this week and we hope you enjoyed visiting our building and talking with our teachers. If you are a parent/guardian of a sophomore or junior, and you were unable to attend our informational meeting prior to Curriculum Night, you can review the information by clicking on this link: 10th and 11th Grade Special Programs Presentation.
We also had a chance to welcome our new students to the East family this week. During our Welcome Breakfast, our Link leaders met with them and helped them make connections in the building. As many of you may know, we experienced a delay in the completion of our new Auxilliary Gym, but we are now delighted to report that we have cleared inspection and we will be using the facility in the coming days!
As you head into the weekend, please take a moment to ask your student what they are learning in their classes, inquire about any homework assignments they may have, and review their progress in Skyward with them. Implementing this routine with your students can be very helpful in keeping them on track in their classes throughout the semester. If you need help accessing Skyward, please go to: Skyward Family Access Click on “Forgot your Login/Password?” and follow the prompts. If you have questions please contact any of our counselors or administrators.
Please take some time to view the video below to see a few snapshots of the great things we have been doing over the past few weeks!
Have a fabulous weekend!
Be EAST!

SERVICE ACADEMY INFORMATIONAL MEETING
Is your student interested in attending a U.S. Service Academy?
Wednesday, September 20, at 6:30 pm, the Offices of U.S. Congresswoman Haley Stevens and U.S. Senator Gary Peters are having an informational Zoom presentation for anyone interested in attending a United States service academy. Attending a service academy is an incredible way to serve our country while also getting a world-class education!
Attending a service academy is completely free of charge – this includes tuition, room and board, and other expenses and stipends that equate to up to $400,000. Graduates from these academies are commissioned as officers into the United States military. Because of this, it is an extremely competitive and complex application process.
In order to attend one of these academies, a candidate would need to receive a nomination from a Member of Congress or the Vice President of the United States (among a few others for very specific individuals). These academies include the United States Military Academy (Westpoint), United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Representatives from each of these academies, as well as the United States Coast Guard Academy, will be attending to present on their institution and answer any questions attendees might have!
To learn more about this great opportunity – students, families, and any interested educational staff are encouraged to register here: Service Academy Meeting Registration Link.
You may also reach out to Congresswoman Stevens’ Academy Coordinator, Zach Rich, at zachary.rich@mail.house.gov or 734-853-3040.
