Greetings Woodcrest Families,
As you are aware, winter break begins next week. There is no school December 23, 2020-January 1, 2021. School resumes Monday, January 4, 2021. I hope you enjoy the time with your family to relax.
As we started this week, we welcomed a very limited number of students back for at-school learning specific to their learning needs. We are very hopeful the public health situation along with our own operations and staffing scenario will support us in opening the school doors to more students in the coming weeks.
We're resuming school on Jan. 4 in Extended Flexible Learning (distance) model. The Governor announced today new statewide guidelines for reopening preK-6 schools, and we're encouraged that we will be able to begin this process for our elementary students as early as January 19. See the district message that went out earlier. We look forward to updating you on these plans after winter break.
While we know nothing about this situation is ideal, I am incredibly thankful for the flexibility of the Woodcrest staff and students and proud of everyone involved in supporting students in their learning including - and especially - our families. I am very aware this is a challenging time. We are all doing difficult things and we’re doing them with the very best of intentions and with all we can bring to the moment.
This is the last newsletter of 2020. I hope you enjoy winter break as a family with time to relax and laugh. I wish you all a happy and safe new year, celebrating the end of 2020 and welcoming, what I know we hope will be, a wonderful 2021 that brings our children back to our Woodcrest hallways and classrooms.
Teachers open up about Extended Flexible Learning
We asked some of our teachers to share their experiences and observations of Extended Flexible Learning. "This year is different. . . and that's okay . . . We're in this together. We're all learning." Listen to their honest, real and vulnerable perspectives as they discuss the challenges and successes of this year.
Meals services update for the upcoming holiday break
Due to the upcoming holiday break, families will receive five-days' worth of meals next Tuesday, December 22. There will be no meal pick-up on Thursday, December 24, Tuesday, December 29 or Thursday, December 31. Meal services pick-up will resume on Tuesday, January 5.
As a reminder, there are 10 community distribution locations to pick up meals from. Check out the locations and find an interactive map here.
Trimester 1 Report Cards
Trimester 1 report cards are now available and can be accessed through Campus Parent Portal. Watch a video tutorial on how to access your student’s report card through Campus Parent Portal. If you have any questions regarding this please contact the main office at 763-600-5800.
Please know that report cards are just one of many ways teachers report on student learning throughout the year. Report card grades reflect student learning, and teachers look at evidence of learning, over time, to determine where students are at in their learning at the time of report cards. At the end of a trimester all grades reflect the student learning that occurred at the time of the report card. Grades for Woodcrest students include:
MS: Minimal progress toward standard
AS: Approaching the standard
S: Met the standard
ES: Exceeds the standard
You may see two other marks on the report card:
An NA indicates that students did not have opportunities to learn this outcome throughout Trimester 1. Any learning outcomes marked as NA for Trimester 1 will be addressed throughout the rest of the year.
An NE (No Evidence) grade indicates that students had opportunities to learn this outcome during Trimester 1, but did not submit any evidence of their learning. As a result, there is no evidence to determine where they are at toward meeting the learning outcome. Any learning outcomes marked as NE for Trimester 1 will be addressed throughout the rest of the year.
