Getting Around ThinkCentral Course Num: 70 (2)
We have some really great resources available to us on ThinkCentral. Virtual manipulatives can add to a number of lessons in addition to the MIF SmartBoard lessons. With MIF responding to teacher concerns, we now have access to more materials that support the Appendix lessons from the back of our textbooks. Online assessments are another great way to gauge how your students are doing and can be used in the classroom or as a review given at home. Learn how to access these new resources so that you can use them in your classroom.

Differentiation Made Easy: Using Newsela to Boost Reading Comprehension Course Num: 92 (2)
In this hands-on session, you will get to explore Newsela, a site which offers a vast wealth of non-fiction news articles across ALL disciplines. Experiment with the site to see how reading content and quiz questions are automatically adjusted to students' individual reading levels -- content can be modified at levels ranging from 3rd grade to 12th grade, so all readers can be successful and engaged in your classroom. Explore Newsela's tools that help students improve close reading skills. Create binders and classrooms, so assignments automatically appear to students upon login, and results are immediately reported to you. Newsela is an invaluable tool in differentiation, with high-interest content that provides reinforcement with Common Core Skills....come see how the site works in action. Current Newsela users are welcome to attend, as we will talk about incorporating Newsela in choice-based projects and other assignments.

Google Forms & Sheets for Novice Users Course Num: 99 (2)
Google Forms is a wonderful tool to help with student assessment and data collection. Forms brings the responses for your form into one easy to read spreadsheet that you can manipulate and analyze. Come learn how to design a Google Form using different types of questions, analyze collected data, and post Forms to your school website to share with students. Understanding Mental Health Issues in a School Setting Course Num: 97 (2)
Students across the nation have been experiencing rising rates of mental health difficulties, including anxiety and depression. Students' school functioning is often impacted by these experiences, and staff find themselves unsure of how to navigate a variety of situations. By understanding different mental illnesses and their impact on students, staff may feel more confident in their skills to support students in difficult situations. Staff members are encouraged to bring scenarios from their experiences at school and there will be time devoted to questions & answers.

Getting to Know the NGSS - Elementary EditionCourse Num: 122 (2)
The Madison Science Curriculum is changing with NJ's adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards! Join us and learn about the NGSS - what it is, when we are adopting it (Sept 2017 in K-5), and why it is good for our students. Whether this is the first time you have heard about the new science standards or you consider yourself an expert, this is a workshop for you. We will specifically focus on the K-5 standards and what they will look like in Madison's elementary schools. We will also discuss the teaching and learning NGSS techniques that you can implement in your classroom today!
