Anton Corbijn
Anthony Kiedis
Background History of the Photograph
Anton Corbijn is very well known for his photographs of famous people in the music industry. His main goal in photography is to take photographs of people that he finds interesting. He rarely goes to photograph anybody with any ideas at hand, and only uses artificial lighting if it is already there. He's know for only having his photographs black and white, and most of his photographs have a square format to them.
This is a photograph of Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman, Anthony Kiedis. This photograph is famous, along with many others, because it has a lot of depth and emotion to it. While photographing people, Anton Corbijn main goal is to try and show the person's true personality.
This particulary photograph was an action shot of Anthony Kiedis taken in 2003, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers were on their "By The Way" tour. Anton Corbijn had visited the band on June 2nd, while the band was in West Palm Beach Florida. He had been sent to Florida to get a few photographs of the bands playing at the "On the Road" tour, and happened to run into Kiedis.
My Opinion
I absolutely love this portrait. It is unique, because there are so many pictures of Anthony acting funny and messing around, but this one actually shows the other side of him that a lot of people probably don't get to witness. I'm not sure if I would change anything about this picture. I find it very interesting that Anton Corbijn decided to make it so that you could not see Anthony's eyes, because I think they're one of his most profound features. I may have changed the angle that it was taken at, because of how his mouth sort of sticks out. But I do think that this is a very unique picture of him. This is probably one of my favorite pictures of Anthony Kiedis. Being a huge Red Hot Chili Peppers fan, I really do think that this photograph shows his personality very well. It shows the more emotional side of him, that a troubled childhood has caused him to hide.
