LAF Update
January 6
Early Dismissal - Friday, February 13th (Students dismiss at 12:45 p.m.)
Winter Weather Attire Advisory
When the ground is snow covered, the students can play in the snow if they are wearing snow boots. As I mentioned to the students, Ugg Boots do not fit this criteria.
Please be sure to dress your child accordingly. Thank you.
A Message from Mrs. Russo - Principal
It has already been a glorious start to the New Year as we celebrated Mrs. Kraemer's 50th year in the School District of the Chathams. That's right - 50 years! Mrs. Kramer also just completed another successful Head Show on Thursday night. A special thank you to Mrs. Kraemer for her tireless energy, commitment and creative ideas. Please take a few minutes to read the article which appeared on the Tap Into Chatham website. https://www.tapinto.net/towns/chatham/articles/chatham-head-show-art-teacher-celebrates-golden
Congratulations to five students from our Student Tech Team. They presented at the LAF PTO meeting on Thursday and did a remarkable job. The meeting was recorded and will be shared once we download the material and make appropriate edits. The Tech Team will continue to share their knowledge of Social Media Apps and Google as the year continues. Thanks to Mr. Freyre for putting this team together and bringing the students' knowledge to the rest of the LAF Community.
Continue to be on the lookout for LAF updates every week. If you should have any questions or concerns, always feel free to reach out crusso@chatham-nj.org or 973-457-2507.
Attention 5th Grade Parents:
A Message from the Nurse ~
New Jersey State regulations require two (2) immunizations for 6th Grade. One is the Tdap booster and the second is the meningitis vaccine. Both vaccines can be given after the age of 10 to satisfy this requirement and are usually given as part of the 11 year old well visit with your pediatrician. If your student has received these vaccines already, please feel free to send in the paperwork to me at LAF so you will be ready for the start of Middle School next September. If you prefer to fax the updated immunization record, the fax number here is (973)457-2493. As always please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns at sally.kelly@chatham-nj.org or 973-457-2507 option 3.
A Message from the World Language Department ~
Please take some time to speak with your child to decide what language he/she will be selecting in middle school. We ask that you then enter the Parent Portal in Genesis and choose your child’s World Language Choice on the “6th Grade Language Selection” form posted there. The form will be active from January 6th through January 26th and your selection will be electronically date/time stamped. While we will try our best to accommodate all students’ choices, please note that this may be impossible due to staffing constraints. In the event that a child’s choice cannot be accommodated as selected on Genesis, you will be contacted to discuss an alternative World Language choice. Please contact Josephine A. Serrano, Supervisor of World Languages, with any questions (jserrano@chatham-nj.org , 973-457-2505, ext. 2039).

BOX TOPS
Our next collection of Box Tops for Education is underway and will run until Friday, February 17, 2017. To make the submission process more efficient, we would appreciate your help as follows:
• Send in any BoxTops you have collected in a sealable (Ziploc-type) bag or envelope OR
• Tape or glue Box Tops on a collection sheet (one box top per space provided on the sheet), available on the PTO website.
Box Tops can be submitted to your child's teacher or to the basket in the LAF school office. All money earned goes directly to the students at LAF so every little bit counts! For more information on the BoxTops for Education program, including a list of participating products, visit www.BTFE.com. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Suzanne David (suzanne.david25@gmail.com). Thanks for your help!
