NATIONAL HUNGER & HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEEK, NOV. 17-21ST
Appalachian Experience Team Meeting
Monday, November 17th at 7 pm in the CCE
Join the Appalachian Experience team for a meeting focused on how hunger and homelessness disproportionately affects people living in Appalachia.
Poverty Simulation
Tuesday, November 18th at 6 pm in the Social Hall
Participants will be put into "families" and will have to survive for four weeks during the simulation. In order to make it, participants will have to get food, find employment, get health services, pay bills, and more while dealing with long lines, public transportation, and law enforcement. This is an eye-opening experience about the tough realities for families living in poverty with a facilitated discussion afterwards by Idress Gooden, community member and expert on facilitation of the framework of poverty. Participants should plan to stay until 8 pm. To learn more, e-mail Kortney Frame at frame_kb@wvwc.edu.
Fed Up Documentary
Wednesday, November 19th @ 6:30 pm in Hyma Auditorium
Fed Up is a 2014 American documentary film directed, written and produced by Stephanie Soechtig. The film focuses on the causes of obesity in the US, presenting evidence showing that the large quantities of sugar in processed foods are an overlooked root of the problem, and points to the monied lobbying power of "Big Sugar" in blocking attempts to enact effective policies to address the issue. Wednesday, November 19th from 5-7 pm in the Social Hall

If you live on campus, you can adopt an animal and take it home with you for Thanksgiving..."Surprise, Mom and Dad! Meet our new puppy!" Even if you can't adopt, come learn about shelter animals and how easy it is to adopt in the future, no matter where you live. Please note that animals cannot be kept in residence halls. Any adopted animal can be picked up at the shelter before leaving for Thanksgiving break. Contact Casey Gilbert at gilbert_cc@wvwc.edu to learn more.
