Echo Lake Elementary School - January 2016
Message from Our Principal
January 2016
Dear Echo Lake families,
It is hard to believe we are nearly half way through the school year! The first semester was full of many wonderful learning experiences and activities. Thank you for sending your child to school each day ready to learn. A very special thank you for your generosity and support in response to our very own Echo Lake Giving Tree. Together we are “Growing Leaders One Child at a Time!”
Our All Echo Lake Reads initiative is well underway, and we hope you are reading the book, The World According to Humphrey with your child. Thanks to the generous support from the PTA, each family received a copy of the book. After reading chapter 11: TV or Not TV, we are going to challenge our students to see if they are able to refrain from using electronics on Wednesday, January 20th. We are calling it “All Echo Lake Unplugged!” You will find additional activities and fun links on our blog. We hope you will join us for Family Literacy Night on January 26th from 5:30 -7:00. Families who pre-order pizza may enjoy dinner together in the cafeteria starting at 5:00. We will culminate ALL Echo Lake Reads with various activities throughout the building to further enrich the reading experience.
As you know, the parking lot is an extremely busy place during arrival and dismissal each day. Parents are strongly encouraged to reduce foot traffic in our parking lot and use the car loop. If you must walk your child in to the building, please use caution and cross in the designated area. When dropping your child off in the car loop, students must always exit on the right side of the car, and parents should remain in the vehicle. Please do not pass cars or drive away until your child steps up on the curve. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
With winter upon us, we need to be prepared for inclement weather. It is essential that we have current emergency contact information, so please notify the office of any changes. If emergency conditions impact the school schedule in any way, parents will be contacted via the School Messenger phone notification system as soon as a decision is made by the superintendent. The following outlets are totally controlled by HCPS and will have the most complete and accurate information:
Twitter - @HenricoSchools
Facebook – facebook.com/henricocountypublicschools
HCPS-TV: Comcast channel 99, Verizon FiOS channel 38
HCPS Website (henricoschools.us) will post updates and announcements on the homepage
School Messenger - phone notification system to all staff and parents/guardians
Your children are a joy and inspiration, and I thank you for sharing them with us every day. I’m looking forward to a wonderful 2016 at ELES!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cynthia E. Foust, Principal
